Memorial Day Prayers
THANK YOU ALL
Memorial Day is much more then another holiday and the mark of summer. Memorial Day is a day that is dedicated to those we have lost. Many men and women have gave their lives for this country. They have paid the ultimate sacrifice in more ways then one and we should all be thankful for that. On this day, we remember those soldiers that gave it all so we could go on living free. On this day, we remember fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, and all our family and friends. Today, we don't celebrate your death, we celebrate your life. God Bless you all.
I have been watching war movies, such as "We Were Soldiers", with Mel Gibson. It made me realize what Memorial Day was about. I couldn't have imagined being there or left to make decisions in that situation. The movie is about war in Vietnam. 400 U.S. troops were left to take on 2,000 Vietnamese. I am not sure if this was a true story, but I am led to believe that it is. The U.S. troops end up victorious, but at a dearly cost.
I wanted to take the time and thank every person that has served our country proudly and with honor. Know this, you all are the real heroes. Please know that your country is behind you all and we will keep you all in our prayers. Many of you have seen images that are no human should ever have to see. You all have been in dangerous situations and have been faced to make tough decisions. Some of you paid with your life. Between all that is happened, nothing can be brought back. But know this, I am very thankful and fortunate for you all. I look at all of you with the highest level of respect. Today, we not only celebrate the lives of who has been lost, we also celebrate the valor, courage, and bravery you all show everyday you live.
I have been fortunate enough to always have my freedom, but it hasn't been for nothing. It all came at a heavy price. From the Revolutionary War to the Iraq War, we all should give thanks to the men and women who fought and died for our freedom. I thank you all and America thanks you also. You are the bravest of the brave. All of you are a special breed. To everyone that is protecting our country, thank you and be safe.
May God be your shadow in light and in darkness. I pray for a safe return for you all, near and far. May God be your eyes when you can't see and your strength when you are weak. Through long distances, may God be your bridge, your bridge to home and to your family. Know that you are never alone, for you are God's son and he your father. God, may they be strong in faith and find comfort from within. God, I pray that they feel that warmth from their family, deep within their soul. Know that they are worthy and fight for what is right under your name. May God watch over everyone of you and keep all of you as his own. Lord, I pray, Amen.
