Merry Christmas; Handmade Decorations, Baked Goodies and All Things Christmas

Updated on September 27, 2013

It's almost Christmas, my favourite time of the year, here in England we already have snow and my poor little car had ice on the inside of all the windows this morning so it was definitely the coldest day we've had so far. Here is my hub that is all things Christmas - I hope you enjoy it and I hope you all have a Very Merry Christmas.

..... want more Christmas ideas? Don't forget to follow my Christmas ideas on Pinterest

Snowy Pine Cone Ornaments

Yes I know everyone knows how to do these and they are incredibly easy but it really wouldn't be a Christmas hub without mentioning them. Sometimes the simplest decorations really are the best and of course the children LOVE to make these, actually so do I. So go for a walk with your family, friends, a few dogs and hunt down these gorgeous pine cones, leave them on some paper to dry out thoroughly and then have yourself some Christmas joy.

I also like to make these and attach name tags to them and use them for the Christmas Dinner Place Settings.

Sparkly Pine Cone Decorations

If you prefer your Pine Cone Christmas Tree decorations with more of a sparkle then these should fit the bill beautifully, an added bonus is getting the children involved and they will always remember the time you spent with them making these every year you decorate your Christmas Tree. We've made a few different colored ones and sequins are readily available in the most amazing array of colors, pop them on a branch near a fairy light and you'll get triple the sparkle for your efforts.

Votive Candles Wrapped in Vellum

These are so easy to make, I've added the link to the original website but there are no instructions, if I was doing these, I would draw the design onto the vellum or paper using glue, dip it in gold or silver glitter and then attach to the glass holders/votives using either more glue or double sided sticky tape.

No matter how you do these I'm sure you'll agree that they are very, very beautiful and would make fabulous gifts.

Oreo Snowflake Cookies

Aren't these just the essence of Christmas? So beautiful, love that color blue it really makes an impact. I don't know a child, or an adult, that wouldn't want to bite into these festive little cookies. The link will take you to a magazine, click on it and it will open up and the tutorial for these is on page 27 - get the kids involved in making these they will remember it for years to come.

Colorful Christmas Wreath

For me it's not really Christmas until I have hung a Christmas Wreath on the front door of our home, I like to ring the changes and make a new one each year and the old ones are either hung around our house, on the garden sheds (well why not?) or they are given to friends who are too busy (that's what they tell me) to make their own. I particularly like the festive colors that this one displays and you can so easily make it match your décor and Winter Decorations.

Clay Hand Print Christmas Tree Decoration

I so wish that I had known how to make this when my children were small but if you have a new baby or toddlers not only will this delight you every year when you place it on the tree but as your children grow they can see how much their hand has grown and it will make a wonderful memory keepsake to give to your nearest and dearest, trust me Grandparents are going to treasure this very special gift.

Snowflakes for the Kids to Make

Looking for something for the kids to get involved in that will while away any boredom before Santa arrives? I used to get my kids to make these while I was busy cooking in the kitchen, they loved doing it, my black fridge looked fabulous once it was adorned with these and I got some well earned peace to get on with making the bread sauce and gravy in the hectic days before Christmas Day.

Easy Gift Decoration

This is soooo simple to make and I think it makes such a lovely change from all those shop bought bows that we buy, all you need to make this is a pair of scissors, some string and a few minutes, very easy and the I just know that my daughter is going to want to try this out.

And if you haven't got string you can always use wool/yarn, we used some lovely thick white wool and made some smaller ones to hang on the Christmas tree as well.

Fingerprint Fairylights Wrapping Paper

Now this is truly delightful, not only are you giving a gift but the actual wrapping paper for me is a gift in itself. Your children will love using different colored paints and decorating the paper with their fingerprints, it is then so simple to scribble in the wires and turn them into Christmas Fairy Lights. Please tell the person that you hand the gift to about the wrapping paper before they tear into it, it is a joy in itself and I don't know a Father, Mother, Grandparent or any other special member of your family and friends that won't adore the sentiment that this will bring and who will want to save every scrap of this.

Star Tags for Gifts

On this website you find instructions on how to make a variety of stars that can be used as decorations and my personal favorite Star Tags to attach to all your gifts. The instructions are beautifully clear and work perfectly, older children will love to do this and as the nights become colder and darker and they are looking for something to keep them occupied this will be my perfect turn to for a bit of creative fun and the results, well they're perfect too!

A Very Merry Holly Wreath

Luckily I have a holly bush in the garden covered in those beautiful red berries, ours isn't the solid green leaf but a variegated version but nonetheless it is going to look fabulous once it has been turned into this Wreath and I also like to put a sprig of holly under upside down wine glasses on the dinner table for Christmas Day, but don't forget to wear protective gloves when making this wonderful decoration.

Snow Effect Christmas Tree

I have looked at the artificial Christmas Trees with a snow effect and they are very pricey, now you can achieve the same look and hardly any cost at all and very effective it looks too. Unfortunately I have already put my tree up and decorated it but next year I will be doing this before the decorations go on, it's very easy, quick and I can't wait to give it a go.

Modern Paper Christmas Ornaments

When my daughter first saw the hub it was these little beauties that she wanted to make and I have to say their simplicity and decorative qualities are amazing considering how easy they are to make, love the design of these and again like the Beaded Snowflakes above they can be used in a variety of ways, although since they are paper please make sure that they are away from any naked flames when hung.

Reindeer Paper Gift Bag

Isn't this Reindeer Gift Bag delightful? So perfect for Christmas, every year we bake some Christmas goodies; Butterscotch Bars and Russian Snowballs for our neighbours and friends and these little bags will be just perfect to wrap them up in, can't wait to get started this weekend and neither can my daughter.

Button Christmas Tree Ornaments

Isn't this photograph just perfect? And as you can see although the look fabulous the actual method of making them is surprisingly simple. I actually have an old button tin that belonged to my late Mother and I put all my old and spare buttons into it but you can buy buttons very cheaply from Ebay and at bric-a-brac market stalls. Kids and adults will love making these.

Homemade Christmas Bath Salts Gift

I just love receiving little Christmas gifts that will pamper me in the coming months and these gorgeous bath salts are just the thing for a do-it-yourself homemade gift for those that you love, although Rosemary may not be the smell that is right for you the great thing about this is that any essential oil that you love can be used in this easy present to make for your friends and family.

Crochet Christmas Tree Garland

For me this is just the ultimate pretty quaint Christmas decoration, if you are handy at crocheting then this Christmas Tree Garland is going to be a breeze to make, and if you've never tried crocheting there are lots of websites that will teach you and this is definitely within a beginners abilities to accomplish. I think the delicate colors used here and just divine but of course you can easily make this garland to match the color décor that you have chosen for your home.

Paper Star Origami Garland

I have to admit I love all things Origami and so does my daughter, I bought her a fabulous book last Christmas teaching her Origami and it even had a selection of beautiful Japanese paper included for her to practice with. Here is a very simple paper garland with colorful stars turned into a garland, turn your spare paper into a wonderful Christmas decoration.

Punched Tin Ornament

I love recycling things, or is that upcycling, whatever the correct term is I think it's especially important during special holidays as we discard so much extra rubbish/garbage, this beautiful piece of reinvention of an old tin can and its transformation into a thing of beauty is just brilliant, easy to do and very, very effective.

And Now It's Time for Christmas Edible Treats ...............

Oreo Snowmen Lollipops

Now this just sums up Christmas beautiful snowmen that are extremely munchable, although the recipe here uses vanilla candy to cover the Oreos I decided to use white chocolate instead and although it gives a less white finish for me it definitely tasted much better - but whether you dip your Oreos in candy or chocolate they will definitely melt in your mouth.

Traditional English Christmas Pudding

Just looking at this little potbelly Christmas Pudding makes my mouth water, stuffed full of Christmas fruits steeped in your favorite spirit and set aflame as it is brought into the dining room, wonderful memories are made from this special Christmas event.

Snowman Christmas Cookies

These beautiful cookies with their blue and white icing will enhance any teatime table, children are always amazed by these and they will bring a sparkle to everyone's eyes no matter what their age. Go on delight your family and friends Snowman Christmas Cookies will certainly be appearing in our home this Yuletide.

Winter Ice-Cream Bombe

This is a really popular dessert in our house, it is easy to do although a little patience is required and it tastes sensational, you can ring the changes with whatever fruit and liqueur you like to flavor the sponge and ice-cream, I made a Strawberry Vodka this year and it tastes wonderful soaked into the sponge and I prefer dark chocolate on my bomb but you may find that if you're serving this to children they may prefer milk chocolate. However you make it you can be assured that everyone will think it's incredible, add a sprig of holly to the top and you have a very festive pudding.

Italian Struffoli

Italian Struffoli - it isn't Christmas without these deep fried morsels, light on the inside and beautifully crunchy on the outside. They vary in added flavorings, some prefer honey, a touch of cinnamon perhaps and my personal favorite has little bits of added orange rind, a dash of Christmas colored sprinkles and they are indeed Italian Christmas on a plate.

Christmas Tree Cake Pops

These are a major hit with everyone, perfecty sweet little edible Christmas Trees, more a case of devouring than decorating, a couple of bites and they are gone but the happiness that they provide is outstanding.

Christmas Gingerbread House

Color, color, color all the way with this fabulous looking Christmas Gingerbread House, pop on all your favorite sweets and decorate with tiny iced snowflakes and it will be a wonderful addition to a Christmas tea table or this could be the perfect thing to make for a Christmas Fete or School Raffle.

Mixed Berry Christmas Tree Hand Pies

I love these, I love them cold, but most of all I love them warm enough to eat without burning your tongue. For me these gorgeous little pastry trees, dark red on the inside and showered in icing sugar snow epitomize that feeling of all things special at Christmas. Of course you can change the fruit to your personal taste, apricot for some, apple is always a winner and my personal favorite Cherry ! ! !

Cranberry Bliss Bars

Yes during the Christmas holiday season you will find these bars at Starbucks, textured like a perfect chewy Blondie and flavored with cranberries, orange zest and white chocolate and topped with cream cheese frosting - but since they'll be made by your own fair hands the homemade version always, always, always tastes a hundred percent better.

Bojon Eggnog

Mmmmm Christmas Eggnog, this wonderful website shows you a perfect step-by-step guide to making homemade eggnog for you and your family and friends to share over Christmas, why not invite all the neighbors round on Christmas Eve and have a Eggnog Party and nibbles, definitely a time to share the Christmas Spirit.

Christmas Tree Gingerbread Cookies

These are so scrumptious! Sweet little Gingerbread Christmas Tree Cookies with M&Ms popped on top as Christmas Balls with green and sometimes white icing, perfect for that Christmas snack and a cup of your favorite hot drink. Or make a hole in the top of the tree and hang them on the Christmas Tree they look fabulous, they don't hang there very long I have to say - but they are delicious so who can blame anyone for eating them.

Cake Bite Christmas Tree

And last but certainly not least - if you are looking for something stunningly sensational for your Christmas table centerpiece then search no more here it is the amazing Cake Bite Christmas Tree, tall and inspiring it will brings gasps of delight from everyone who enters the room just keep an eye on table height munchkins who just can't resist trying to steal one - definitely a cake to remember, people will be talking about this for years to come.

There are some really fun crafts and tasty recipes here! Thank you so much for sharing! My mother-in-law actually bakes those Cranberry Bliss Bars every year -- they are simply amazing! They taste just like the ones from Starbucks. I think I will have to save this page for future reference and make some of these crafts with my kids this year. Thanks!
