Top 10 Christmas Songs

Updated on April 16, 2014

My Top 10 Christmas Songs

With Christmas fast approaching it won’t be long until we’re getting merry at the office Christmas party, singing along to all the cheesy Christmas songs, and generally having a good ol’ knees up!

Here are my top 10 Christmas songs that are sure to get you in the mood for the festive season:-

1. Slade – Merry Christmas Everybody!

Now who can resist a bit of Noddy Holder?! This has got to be my favourite Christmas song ever, it’s such a classic, and so upbeat! And I bet you’ve all bellowed “It’s Chriiiiiiiiiistmaaaaaaas!” after a few sherries at some point in your lives! (and if you haven’t you should!).

2. Mariah Carey – All I Want For Christmas Is You.

Christmas just isn’t Christmas without a bit of warbling from Mariah, it’s guaranteed to get everyone singing along!

3. Bing Crosby – White Christmas.

Aaaah doesn’t it take you back? You really can’t beat the old classics, it’s truly a golden oldie. Best listened to while sitting all snug in front of the fire with a hot chocolate (or sherry!) while it’s (hopefully) snowing outside!

4. Cliff Richard – Mistletoe & Wine.

Another warbler, but everyone loves Cliff really, especially when he creates songs as catchy as this one!

5. John & Yoko & The Plastic Ono Band with The Harlem Community Choir - Do They Know It's Christmas?

I think it’s pretty self explanatory why John Lennon’s Christmas song is in my list, it’s such a famous song, everyone knows it, and it has such an important message too.

6. Wizzard – I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday.

Another one guaranteed to get you up on the dance floor dancing like your Dad! Couldn’t resist sneaking this one on the list because you just can’t help but boogie and sing along to it!

7. Aled Jones – Walking In The Air.

This song is Christmas for me as it reminds me of being little! A re-make of the song from The Snowman animation in 1982, it reached number 5 in the UK music charts in 1985 and was enjoyed by all ages. Brilliant animation, brilliant song…and yes I did cry at the end when the Snowman melted!

8. The Pogues & Kirsty Maccoll – Fairytale of New York.

Love this song and think it deserves a place on the list. It’s an Irish folk style song and it tells a story throughout. I know its Christmas when I hear this played on the radio for the first time of the year.

9. Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree – Brenda Lee.

Another song that will get you up on your feet and dancing and singing along! But beware it’s very catchy and you may annoy yourself (or others) repeatedly singing it.

10. Band Aid – Do They Know It’s Christmas?

Possibly the most famous Christmas song worldwide? Performed in 1984 in aid of Famine Relief, it was recorded by so many well-known artists, all in aid of charity. It’s a great song that was done for a better cause.

Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas!
