Creating Your Moaning Myrtle Costume

Moaning Myrtle was one of those characters in Harry Potter that you wished had a happier ending. But then again, if it wasn't for her unfortunate and untimely death she wouldn't have become the moaning Myrtle that we know and love today.

The Moaning Myrtle costume is an easy one to put together, as long as you've got all the right pieces and a somewhat shy and odd personality.

Before you begin the Moaning Myrtle transformation, here are a few things to keep in mind when taking on this sad ghost's persona. First off, it would be more believable if you were a female, but it's not a big deal if you aren't.

After all, that's what a wig and a skirt is for. Secondly you must never smile or show any ounce of happiness. Myrtle was always being bullied and teased because of her appearance and her personality, resulting in a rather gloomy disposition. And lastly, you have to be whiny, crying and moaning most of the time.

Once you've got that down it's time to move on to the physical transformation with a Moaning Myrtle costume.

Moaning Myrtle Adult Costume Kit

This is all you need to become the moaning and sad ghost who haunts Hogwarts bathrooms. This kit comes complete with a long black robe with the Ravenclaw crest imprinted on the left chest.

You also get a long brunette wig fashioned in the same pigtail style that Myrtle wore her hair in. There's even Myrtle's round framed glasses included in the kit. With these three pieces, anyone can become Moaning Myrtle. And for a more ghostly appearance, feel free to powder your face white!

If you'd like to add more details to your Moaning Myrtle look then here are some other pieces you can add for a more authentic appeal and you can see them below.

Original Harry Potter Officially TM Ravenclaw Necktie

Myrtle was a Ravenclaw when she attended Hogwarts as a student. But even in death her school house follows her as she wears her uniform for eternity.

This tie is a great accent to the Moaning Myrtle costume. It's made from blue and silver fabric detailed with the Ravenclaw crest.

Harry Potter School Shirt

Sometimes it can get a little hot underneath a robe and if you want to sport Myrtle's school uniform sans the robe, this white shirt completes the entire look. Couple with the sweater and tie and you'll look like an authentic Ravenclaw student.

Harry Potter School Skirt Grey

You can't go haunting students and other people without the proper attire, and having no bottoms is not proper at all. This piece will look great with the Moaning Myrtle costume and gives you the option of wearing the robe open.

Moaning Myrtle is a quirky character and it's easy to see why some people would like to become her for Halloween. Get your very own Moaning Myrtle costume today and discover how fun it would be to become the ghost of Hogwarts bathrooms.

@Craftymarie thanks Marie that's very kind of you and really appreciated. Yes she is very annoying isn't she but there's also something a little sad about her which I think makes her all the more a great choice for a costume with a difference.

Moaning Myrtle is a good one and very fitting for Halloween and the spooky season. She is an annoying and irritating character for much of the time and for that reason is highly memorable from Harry Potter. You nailed advice on the look with the pigtails and specs too.
