Motherly Mother's Day Gifts

Updated on May 6, 2011

Mother's Day Presents

Remember to honor Mom on Mother's Day, which should be every day anyway. Your Mom does more for you than you could possibly imagine and many Moms are even willing to list all those things for you. We present a cornucopia of Mommy Dearest presents, rewards, gewgaws, lagniappes, and from-the-heart precious thoughtful gifts to bail you out just in case it's midnight on Saturday night and tomorrow is Mother's Day.

Don't say we didn't warn you. Moms will insist that no gifts are necessary, but hopefully you know better by now. Those of you who are just getting used to having a Mom, beware of her insistence on frugality during the celebration of her commemorative day: she really wants stuff from you. Look for something that will stay with her, something she will remember for many years to come, and something that you can all discuss at the Thanksgiving Table or on Father's Day.

Great Gift #1

There isn't a Mom in the world that wants a dirty house. They could get down on their hands and knees to scrub the floors like a 17th century washerwoman in a moldy London castle, but those days are pretty much long gone because we have equality of the sexes and all that. Instead of asking Mom to live in squalor, spend a few bucks on a decent mop. This particular mop is well-respected by highly qualified Moms everywhere and will give her something to talk about when she meets all her friends at the clothes line in the back yard.

Mom's Day Gift #2

Every Mom wants to wear shoes and these shoes are a prime example of shoes that can be worn. They offer functionality and stylishness concurrently. Mom's don't have to run or anything like that, so these shoes will be perfect for using the mop to clean the floors or even pickling up groceries at the local supermarket. Most Mom's secretly want to be a little taller anyway. Pick up a few pairs at this low low price and use them for Christmas gifts or a reward for making a really good meal.

When Mom drives to the supermarket in her new shoes to get floor cleaner to go with her mop, she certainly wants her car to look good. No Mom can bear the thought of an unshiny vehicle. This car wax is a perfect gift form Mom to use on her special day. You'll never forget the look on her face as she stands outside in the sunshine polishing and buffing her minivan while all the other Mom's eat salads at Applebee's.

Mom's Day Gift #4

Stuff breaks around the house: we all know that. Doors need to be refinished, drywall needs to be rehung, and no one wants to be caught by surprise when pesky winds blow shingles off the roof. This ultra-handy toolkit will provide Mom with many happy hours of home repair bliss. Mom is a homemaker, after all. She will be able to make her home precisely as she sees fit. A complete set of hand-tools will come as a complete surprise to her on her special day.

Mommy's Day Gift #5

Most Moms can't get enough mothering. They crave additional opportunities to provide Motherly functionality to household residents. You probably shouldn't try to order Mom a new child, but you can certainly provide her with a new family pet to love and adore. There's no better pet than one that carries its house on its back and can pinch her finger off if she's not careful. Mom will treasure your thoughtfulness for the average lifespan of a hermit crab, which is about 7.5 years according to Wikipedia, and they are rarely incorrect about such things.

Gift for Mommy #6

Almost every Mom loves to garden: the biggest garden is her yard. Instead of making Mom shove a push mower through the back 40, order her one or two of these massive cutting machines. She can finish mowing and still have time to make Sunday dinner for the family before the NBA playoffs start on TV. Husqvarna makes the best Mother's Day presents ever.
