What's Your New Year's Resolution?
My New Year's Resolution is to change my way of thinking.
I can get really caught up in a negative way of thinking letting my fears take over which makes it hard for me to move forward in any situation. I have recently let go of thinking this way. I've been trying to see the bright side of things and find the beauty in everything I do and see. It has made me more happy.
For some reason I'm the type of person who always wants more. I get bored with the ordinary and need to be inspired and challenged in order to feel alive and passionate. I am very passionate by nature, but it dims with fear, depression, and regrets. I always think well, things could be better. So, I am going to try thinking in the new of things being already good and see where that takes me.
My life last year was very different than this year. It changed in an instant and I couldn't control it. It's funny how life does that to you sometimes. Last year, I was working at a magazine as their designer and art director. I also wrote articles for them from time to time. The company closed down at the end of summer and I was left dealing with being laid off going back to freelance work. It hasn't been the easiest transition. I became sort of depressed and kind of lost as to where I am going to go to from there. I decided to start my own business and magazine which I am working on now while freelancing and volunteering.
In a way I think life throws you these curve balls to keep you on your toes. I wasn't happy at that job even though it was somewhat fulfilling creatively. My boss was inappropriate and to some degree I felt creatively stunted. As I look back on it, it was a pretty toxic environment even though it seemed glamourous for awhile. So, I am glad for this opportunity of changing my life even though it is a challenge. I think what you focus on becomes your priority and your passion drives it.
I am also trying to be more healthy in my lifestyle, eating, etc. I started doing acupuncture last May through the summer for stress and to see how it made me feel. At the end of every session I always felt refreshed and more clear with my life focus. I also started doing yoga and was going to start taking more classes maybe becoming a yoga instructor. I always had a passion for it. I also love Ayurveda. My family was always into a more healthy lifestyle. My grandmother from a young age took me to health food stores and I always loved natural remedies.
Another thing I am changing is trying not to get down in the winter months, which has always been an obstacle for me. I don't like how dark it gets so soon. It always made me sort of depressed. Exercise really helps with that.
The number one thing is to love myself more. Pamper myself in anyway possible and to just be happy. Life is short.
I know I've been told if you focus on one thing it usually doesn't work out and backfires on you, but if you change your way of living and lifestyle, I think that's a totally different thing. What are some of your resolutions for the New Year?
