A Poem About Praising God on Earth Day

Updated on September 17, 2015

Earth Day Poem Summary

A poem for Earth Day that praises the God who made the earth, who gave us all what we need. We need to respect what He has given us. In this poem, I apologize on behalf of humans for the damage we have inflicted on this beautiful earth.

Oh Earth ...

Today, oh earth, you are given

Homage and apologies for the damage,

We inflict on you by our livin'

As we increase our continual crammage ....

We set aside a day just for planting,

A time for picking up after others,

We do some self-righteous ranting,

And then go back to our regular druthers ...

Earth, you are used and abused by

Businesses who feel the taunt of the stock price

Sullied and poisoned by an endless supply

Of chemicals, machinery and contaminates.

Oh, earth, you do need saving, and

It seems it's an impossibly hard task.

The only one that's left to rescue our land

Is the very person we neglect to ask.

Oh God ...

He's the one that made the whole earth and

Then he created the animals and plants, too,

He's the only one that can heal our land

The the only one that can make all things new.

Oh Father God, you've created

This beautiful earth we call home!

We are delighted and we're elated

That you've given us room to roam!

We're sorry for the money we're chasing

We own up to the damage we've caused

We repent of the lifestyle of wasting,

We are sad for the resources we've lost.

Oh God, on this great Earth Day,

We honour you for all that You've done.

You made this place for our play

As we live our days here under the sun.

@Vinaya, thank you. Yes, we have been so hard on the earth in the last centuries. I have great respect for the cultures which have that respect for the earth we've been given. Thank you so much for your kind words. Take care!

Since the ancient time, human beings, in different culture and places, have defied earth as mother and god. But it was not until the modern age that human beings started torturing the earth.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful poem.
