Pashmina shawls wraps and scarves - gifts for the wonderful women in your life

Updated on April 9, 2011

Pashmina shawl, scarves and wraps

I received a gift of my very first Pashmina shawl at Christmas many years ago and this started my affair with Pashmina shawls and Pashmina wraps,

Pashmina stoles. I love the very feel texture and warmth that these shawls bring me. They come highly recommended as the best gift for this season of love and giving.

Pashmina shawls come in beautiful designs, colors and sizes.

They drape beautifully and are not just functional pieces of clothing to keep you warm but are considered to be fashion accessories that lend color and magic to the clothes you wear.

What are Pashmina shawls and wraps?

Pashminas are handmade shawls, made from the wool or pashm of the Capra hircus goat or the Himalayan mountain goats, in Kashmir.

To survive the extreme cold this animal grows a unique, incredibly soft pashm, or inner coat, six times finer than human hair which is used in the making of these shawls.

This is also known as cashmere and it is one of the world's most rare and precious fibres, soft, light and warm, to wear, almost like a warm embrace of love.

Kashmir and Tibet where these shawls are made are famed for their exquisite craftsmanship.

This region is famous world over for some of its finest needle work and handwork. The British influence can be found in this art too.

The original designs of Turkistan are now blended and adapted with the English designs to suit European tastes.

When Napoleon presented the first Pashmina shawl to Empress Josephine he started a new fashion trend and rage all over Europe.

Pashminas are not only a fashion statement, they are very lovely pieces of accessories that are functional too.

Light weight Pashmina stole wraps and scarf

The very softness of the material, the drape, the design the silky sheen of these Pashmina stoles , scarves or shawls have made them an essential part of the women’s wardrobe like the ubiquitous little black dress of the west or the silk saree of the east.

These light weight shawls look so delicate but one needs to feels them on your skin to believe the softness and the warmth that they can give.

It could just be used as a stole or a scarf to add colour or texture and interest to the clothes you wear, or could be draped around like a fashion accessory that it has become or used as a function item of clothing to keep you from a chill morning draft or evening air that can make you catch a cold .

You could wear it as you take a walk in the morning chill or maybe an evening out at the theater, or a holiday in a mountain resort, you would not only looking stunning but also classy, wearing a Pashmina draped over you.

Pashmina's or cashmeres make excellent gifts

These stoles are very popular with Asians too, that they are worn with almost any clothes, traditional, casual or even ultramodern clothing, may be it could even come in handy at a dramatic wardrobe malfunction.

You do not have to travel far or hunt high and low for these amazing gifts. Amazon as always bring you the best of deals online , with a wide range of designs that you may be tempted to get more than you initially planned to. I have here picked out some beautiful pieces, you could of course click on them to look for more that suit your tastes.

A Pashmina shawl could be a gift that will remain with your loved one for many years as it has been with me, a pleasurable reminder of good times.

I would consider it the perfect gift for any woman that you cherish and want to show your love or gratitude to.

Have a great time receiving reciprocated warmth, affection, gratitude and love that comes as a result of your thoughtful giving.
