Pi Day Is Coming! Pie Day Is Coming!
A Delicious Play On Words
In my household we take holidays very seriously. St. Patrick's Day is magical! Valentine's Day is full of love! Easter is a wondrous time. Halloween is spooktacular! Thanksgiving is very gracious and Christmas is full of giving and awe! But Pi Day!!! Well, Pi Day is a geeky day of fun and food and yum! Not just any food, though. Because on Pi Day, everything you eat MUST be in the form of pie!
Breakfast pies, you say?
I do! I do say! Breakfast pies are truly the best! They are filled with all of the delicious things that you love most about breakfast! But surrounded with a flaky crust, so warm, it's as if your breakfast were being hugged. Sausage and ham and eggs and cheese and potato and gravy and bacon and whatever else you would like to throw in. If it's a breakfast food, it can go in a pie!
And for lunch...
Lunch pies are easy! There are so many choices. Whether you bake your own pies at home from scratch, or purchase them frozen at the store, your choices are unlimited!!! You have turkey pot pies and beef! You have chicken pot pies and veggie! Pretty much like the breakfast pies, anything goes! If you love it, throw it in! Splash in the gravy, don't forget the love, and bake!
Dinner, already? But what's left?
This third pie, this most glorious and beautiful of all the pies, is our favorite! Which is why we saved the best for last! Well, second to last. This next pie is the dinner pie and is none other than the one, the only, the Pizza Pie!
Pizza can come with pretty much any topping! Any sauce! Any cheese! Pizza can be truly what you make of it and I am hard pressed to imagine a pizza that wouldn't taste fantastic! We're going to go with stuffed crust this year, because stuffed crust pizza is out of this world!
The end to a glorious day.
Our last pie on Pi Day is the dessert pie. It's a pie that is even more diverse than any of the other pies because it can be so many things! You have your pies stuffed with fruits like raspberries and cherries and strawberries and blueberries! You have your pies made with nuts, like pecan. You have your squash pies like pumpkin and your cream pies like chocolate. You have your cheesecakes, that I still count, and your citrus meringues! Dessert pies really offer you the opportunity to go all out and make a glorious end to what was a truly glorious day.
Now to wrap things up as if in a layer of your grandma's extra special pie crust.
What better way to celebrate an endless number than to put forth to your family a seemingly endless array and variety of pie? And this year, it's even more special because not only is March 14th the first three numbers of pie, 3.14, but the year is '15, so you can go even farther by saying it's 3.1415! Have an extra scrumptious pie this year because it's going to be another hundred years before that happens again. And that's kind of amazing.
