India is a place of rituals, diversities, colourful cultures, different beliefs, and all of these are celebrated in the form of festivals. All these qualities in Indian core make its people to live happily all the year and these cultures are our legacy. And out of these festivals Rakshabandhan is also a festival of rituals and culture. We all know about Rakshabandhan and if you don’t in will give you a quick brief about this festival. It is celebrated in Indian subcontinent as festival of brother-sister, on this day sisters tie a silk thread on wrists of their brother as a promise of protection and also took it in return, put tika on their forehead and give them sweets to eat. But why it was set as a ritual, because it could have been done any day. What is its impact on people? We will try to explore it by some of its elements.

Yes some of its elements have direct relation with our health, see how.

sawan (monsoon season)
sawan (monsoon season)

SHRAWAN (AUGUST-SEPTEMBER)- This festival is celebrated in month of Shrawan according to Hindu calendar which falls on August- September month of English calendar, which is consider as holy month of Hindu religion and called to be as month of lord Shiva. And geographically on Indian subcontinent it is season of rain at its peak. Due to rainy season many times there are saviour chance of a person to infect with viral and disease like malaria, fever, cold etc. Hence care and protection is mandatory in this season that is why hyper and aggressive food is violated in this month too.

POORNIMA (full moon day) - Poornima is the day of full moon and in the month of Shrawan on this day Rakshabandhan is celebrated. And on this day moon is at its full phase, which brings all fluids on the earth into mode of attraction, tides in the ocean are its best example. Fluids in our body on full moon day also get excited and tend to come upward, in the same way excitement, tension, low sleep, chances of high blood pressure are more than other days.

As we have gone through its health related element, because date is fix and we cannot change geographical factors hence caring about its cure, and protections rituals were made by our saints and scholars thousands of years ago. So we have to see the cure elements too.

rakhi thread

RAKHI, KALAWA, (SILK THREAD) - This is the main part of Rakshabandhan festivals. It is indicator of promise of protection and it is protection as well. Especially red, orange, yellow, believe it these colours are associated with our protection, in science of Colour Therapy all these colours are associated with, energy, pancreas, digestion, liquid flowing in body, etc, these colours are used to give therapy in such regions of body. Since we cannot colour our body hence a thread of silk which is a pure thread made by natural fibre is tighten on wrist.

acupressure points on wrist

WHY ON WRIST?

Right hand wrist in Indian culture is said to be purest, in our religion every holy work is done by right hand hence Rakhi is tied on right hand but why on wrist? Our wrist and hands are having so many points running to different body parts. Tighten a thread on wrist could be seen in two ways it compresses nerves of body as to control flow of blood in excess blood pressure situation, as we have gone through it earlier that on a full moon day every fluid of body gets excited. Excess flow of blood through wrists can be cause of veins vascular disease and hence nerves should be kept in tight position.

Other aspect is of acupressure science, yes, it is a key point that centre point of our wrist accurate pressure for lymph in our body lies. Lymph is related to immunity and protection fluid, from cough, cold, viral, and many diseases too, in our body as white blood cells are present in it. Hence thread is making a lean pressure on this point to activate lymph in a controlled manner.

TILAK – Medical science is basically related with our brain up to some extent. Tilak is applied on forehead on every religious occasions India. The part of forehead where tilak is applied is Pineal gland; it is also known as third that joins the physical and spiritual science in a contact and also this gland provides energy and calmness to mind on same level. Tilak applied on it is made of sandal wood and turmeric and red coloured substance, which brings pineal gland to stimulate.

Hence in Indian culture everything is scientific. Rakshabandhan is not only festival of brother and sister; it is festival of bond, caring someone purely and to give protection in spiritual manner, by taking name of God, and celebrate it in a very positive and happy way.

Everything has a place and purpose, as all things come from God. When its evolutionary cycle runs out, it dies naturally. Much Love.

You are so right my Brother.

Indian culture is a complex and necessary mix of myths, philosophies, traditions, rituals and rites, pujas, celebrations to include festivals of Light. It also weaves a universality of Sanatana Dharma though varying religious beliefs and arts to include dance; has a deep and innate Spirituality, which has been influencing the world for 10.000 years!

Yet some God-souls and books stand out. The Bhagavad Gita (The Song Celestial; The Song of the Transcendental Soul), the Vedas to include Upanishads and the Yoga Vashshita. The Viveka Chaudamani (Crest Jewel of Discrimination) of Lord Shankaracharya and the Shrimad Bhagavatam are immortal books. Jai Sri Krishna, Jai Sage Vyasa! Jai Ram!
