Real Life Halloween Horror Stories
Halloween is celebrated every year on 31st October. It has its origins from the ancient Celtic festival of 'Samhain'. During this festival, people would wear costumes and light bonfires to ward off ghosts. During the eighth century, Pope Gregory III declared November 1st as All Saints Day. The evening before was referred to as All Hallows Eve or Halloween.
Currently, we consider Halloween as a festival for wearing costumes, decorating our houses and trick-or-treating. However, we forget the purpose of the day and the evil that lurks among us. And a lot of bad things seem to happen on this particular day. Here are some spooky Halloween stories to keep you awake all night!
1. Shot For Being Too Good:
A 9-year-old girl was shot at a Halloween party in western Pennsylvania by a relative (Thomas Grant). The girl was wearing a black costume and a black hat with a white tassel. Thomas Grant mistook the girl for a real skunk and fired his shotgun. She got hit in the shoulder, arm, back, and neck but survived.
2. Candy to Die for:
This incident happened during the Halloween of 2011. A 49-year-old Chicago resident (Maria Adams) was stabbed to death by a male friend over an argument. Adams became enraged when he noticed that a bag of candy was missing from his house and repeatedly stabbed the woman with several steak knives.
3. Poison for Candy:
During the Halloween of 1974, Ronald Clark O'Bryan gave poisoned candy to his two children. He had taken out an insurance policy on his two children and wanted to claim it. So he gave some candy with cyanide on Halloween. OnlyTimothy ate the candy and died. In March 1984 O'Bryan was executed for his crime.
4. Mysterious Disappearance:
Marilyn Damman decided to go to a food fair in Long Island during the Halloween of 1955. She left her two children, two-year-old Steven, and seven-month-old Pamela outside the store to do some shopping. She returned 10 minutes later to find both of her children gone. Pamela with her stroller was found a short distance away. But Steven was never to be seen again.
5. Body Hanging from Tree:
Halloween 2015: The residents of Frederica, Delaware were treated to a unique decoration. The body of a woman was found hanging from a tree in plain view of the public and passing vehicles. It took the residents 3 hours to finally realize that it was the real body of a 42-year-old woman who had committed suicide.
6. Beaten to Death:
Martha Moxley was a 15-year-old high school girl from Greenwich, Connecticut. She was found dead on Halloween night 1975 in her backyard. Martha had been bludgeoned and stabbed to death with a golf club. Her body was then dragged 24 meters to her house. The murderer, Michael Skakel was sentenced to life imprisonment.
7. Accidental Hanging:
There have been many instances where people have accidentally hanged themselves while trying to prank their friends. Jordan Moreland was a 16-year-old boy from Louisville who wanted to play a prank on his little sister during Halloween. Jordan tried to slip his head through a noose which was hung as decoration in front of their house to trick his sister. He accidentally slipped and hung himself, fell into a coma and died.
8. Halloween Brawl:
On the Halloween night of 1998, Karl Jackson and his girlfriend went to pick up their 9-year-old son from a party. Suddenly a group of teenagers started throwing eggs at their car. So, Karl got out of his car to confront the kids. But as he returned to his car, one of the teenagers pulled out a gun and shot him in the head. Karl died of his wounds on the spot. His murderer escaped.
9. Halloween Killer:
In 1957 a couple was getting ready to go to bed when the doorbell rang. The husband (Peter) answered the door, expecting trick-or-treaters since it was Halloween. Instead, he found a person wearing a mask. The masked assailant shot him in the chest which killed Peter immediately. The murderer was Joan Rabel who had an affair with Peter’s wife and wanted to have her by killing Peter.
10. Mail Delivery Over Dead Man’s Body:
During the Halloween of 2012, Dale Porch was returning home after working the overnight shift at the Regional Transportation District in Denver when he collapsed on the porch steps. The creepy part of this incident was the fact that the mailman who came to deliver the mail the next day sidestepped the ‘excellent Halloween decoration’ before delivering the mail. It was not until later that he realized his mistake.
