Pizza for the Super Bowl Party

During football season, everyone loves to share the camaraderie and put on a football party. The culmination of this is the final party of the season known as the SUPER BOWL PARTY. All season long you work your way up with serving your favorite appetizers, chicken wings and hero sandwiches. I have several appetizers that I've taken to parties of various kinds such as the Wrapped Dill Slices, Shrimp Dip, Crab Meat or Shrimp Spread, meatballs in homemade barbecue sauce, etc.

With the economy being what it is today, I've learned that not only have these favorites gone up in price but they have gone up in the range of 39%. The seafood treats are way out of line with today's expenses. That makes it a little more expensive to host a party of any magnitude. If you are just expecting your closest friends, you can always ask the guest to share the expense and each bring a part of the party goodies.

My son likes to make his own meatloaf for his parties, but even ground beef is on the expensive side right now.

Order in a few pizzas. A lot of the chain pizza shops are offering pizza specials somewhere between $10 and $14 a pizza. That gives you 12 to 16 cuts per pizza.

You can even go to a local Sam's Club or Costco and get 3 DiGiorno Pizza's for about the same cost as one of the chain pizzas. This means you have to be running back and forth to the kitchen while you are making each of the pizzas.

If your guests are all close friends and you do this party at each other's homes, there is no reason that you can't ask everyone to pitch in and you buy the food and drinks for the party. If you know any of your guests drink something special that is out of your price range, you can also ask all of your guests to byob (bring you own bottle) and you provide the set ups. That way everyone is happy but you need to be sure that no one takes advantage of that special bottle unless it's offered by the guest.

With all of that said, I'm looking forward to a great party even though I'll be watching the Super Bowl at home and making my own Pizza which I already have in my freezer. Bon Appetit and good luck to all who have a favorite team playing.
