Safiq Ali Patel's Christmas Songs My Top Ten Favorite Records At Christmas

Updated on November 28, 2012

Chris Rea, Bony M, and Chris De Burg all feature in my top ten favorite Christmas Records

Safiq Ali Patel’s Top Ten Favorite Christmas Songs.

Here is a list of writer, broadcaster, and journalist Safiq Ali Patel’s top ten favorite Christmas Records. Please feel very welcome to add your own top ten Christmas songs in the comments box.

1, Ella Fitzgerald, God Bless Ye Merry Gentlemen. I like this song the most because of the wisdom contained in its lyrics. Ella sings “God Bless Ye Merry Gentlemen” which is a wish for good things and for god's blessings to all people.

2, Mariah Carey, God Bless Ye Merry Gentlemen. I like Mariah Carey’s version of this Christmas Classic. Mariah’s soft and enchanting voice lights up any Christmas Eve celebration and the lyrics are almost divine. “To save us all from Satan’s power when we had gone astray,” tells the listener something about the deeper and more meaningful messages of Christmas.

3, A Spaceman Came, by Chris De Burgh. This song is enchanting. The music has a mysterious ambiance and the lyrics tell the story of Christmas as though God were a spaceman who came by spacecraft to earth to bring light and music to the earth and promised that after two thousand years of our time had gone by this song would be heard once again. Absolutely beautiful record that sounds awesome on a candle lit Christmas Eve.

4, Last Christmas, by Wham and George Michael is my fourth most favorite Christmas song. It is essentially a song about a broken relationship at Christmas and how the heartbroken singer will give his heart this Christmas to someone special, not to someone who broke his heart last Christmas.

5, Bony M, Mary’s boy child, is my number 5th most favorite record at Christmas time. This song was a hit record at Christmas some three decades ago. The music is lively and festive and the lyrics tell the story of the nativity on Christmas Eve. It’s rhythm is a blend of festive pop and black gospel music.

6, Driving home for Christmas by Chris Rea is my number sixth most popular song at Christmas time. Picture a winters evening when there are red lights all around and you’re driving home for Christmas to be with the ones you love. The music in this song is happy, festive and deeply filled with the rhythm of love and longing.

7, Sinead O Conner, Silent Night is my seventh most favorite Christmas record. Silent Night is a classic Christmas carol sung in Churches all over the world on Christmas Eve. Sinead O Conner sings this classic with a voice that is enchanting. Sinead O Conner’s vocals on this Christmas Carol make my senses rush up and down. It is absolutely beautiful when played with dim lights, on bended knees before the lord god. It is a beautiful Christmas Carol to commune with the Lord and the very spirit of Christmas.

8, Gregg Lake, I believe in Father Christmas, is my eighth most favorite Christmas song. This song has a bellowing loud vocalist singing a song of rebellion. The song is filled with some awesome banging drums and some great Christmas themes like Father Christmas, and peace on earth.

9, Band Aid, Do They Know It’s Christmas is my number 9th most favorite record at Christmas. This record was released almost 30 years ago. It is sung by some of the British Pop Industries biggest names from the early 1980’s. The song was written and performed to raise money awareness of the people living with famine and drought in Ethiopia in 1981.

10, Cliff Richard, Mistletoe and Wine is my number 10 most favorite Christmas record. Cliff Richard had a number 1 Hit at Christmas with this record back in the 1990’s. The lyrics paint a picture of all the things that are beauty filled at Christmas. Cliff sings of all the things that come a live and feel good at Christmas time. He also celebrates the spirit of peace and goodwill to all men at Christmas in the lyrics and the music of this song. This song is a true Christmas classic that paints with its words a perfect picture of Christmas.

Happy Christmas to you reader from Safiq Ali Patel. Please if you wish list some of your favorite Christmas songs in the comments box.
