Simple Christmas Decorations with Blocks and Letters
Blocks as Holiday Décor!
Why spend a lot of money on Christmas decorations that say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays? You can easily create your own seasonal words and expressions with vintage children's blocks, or even new blocks if you have a young child who has blocks.
I found a large bag of vintage blocks at the local flea market and negotiated the price down to what I could afford. I used the blocks to create words for my home for Christmas. I found blocks to spell out NOEL, LOVE, PEACE, JINGLE, SANTA, JOY, CHRIST and FAMILY.
This type of decoration can also be used throughout the year for many different holidays, just by rearranging the blocks into different words and expressions. Try Happy New Year! Happy Halloween and Happy Thanksgiving are great expressions that can be spelled out with children's blocks too. And how about Happy Birthday? I also like the popular LIVE, LOVE and LAUGH.
Block expressions would also look great as part of a table centerpiece or nestled in the greens of a wreath and hot glued in place.
I also created Christmas tree ornaments from vintage children's blocks. Try each child's initial or a C for Christmas. Just screw a small eyebolt into the top of a wooden block and cut a length of cord or ribbon to make a loop to hang it on your tree. Simply gorgeous!
Blocks can be used in so many ways. Just use your imagination and you will come up with new ideas of your own. Perhaps you might spell out a child's name to put on a shelf in their bedroom. What about spelling out the child's hobbies? For girls: you might try BALLET, DANCE or SING. For boys, you might try BALL, TRUCK or TRAIN. Try Scrabble Letters Too
Following the theme of holiday words from blocks, you can do the same thing with Scrabble letters! I love the phrase "Let it Snow" and mistletoe is a favorite holiday decoration as well.
