Simple and Elegant Christmas Gifts

Updated on September 20, 2012

You don't need a lot of money to make an elegant Christmas Gift. You can keep it as simple as you want or as extravagant as you would like. Elegant Christmas gifts can be your everyday plain things all wrapped in in a decorative package. With a bad economy I m sure everyone would appreciate a basket of their favorite foods or everyday items. For example if you know someone loves hot chocolate go to your local discount store and buy a decorative tin or a basket. Baskets and tins are great because the recipient can use them over and over again.

Now back to the hot chocolate idea. Get your basket and place some filler.. it can be shredded up construction paper or some raffia. Take items from your own cupboard if you like! Get some packages of hot cocoa and place in the basket. Sometimes hot cocoa comes in a decorative tin all to its self. If you have an extra holiday cup you got but do not use then wash it up and place it in the basket. Add a few chocolate bars and viola! A gift. Now comes the important part.. decorate it up with a little care. maybe use some old ribbon you had lying around to make a bow or line the basket itiself. Take some tiny Chistmas ornament and place decoratively on the basket. You can even buy tiny ornaments and place them on the basket .

What you don't know anyone tht likes hot chocolate? Then follow the same steps above but place coffee in it instead. This time of year there are all kinds of coffee gift sets. You can purchase them and take them out of the box and place it in the basket. Decorate with little fancy coffee creamers. The coffee basket would make a great side gift to a coffee maker.

The basket can be used for many other gift giving ideas.

Here are some other basket ideas that make a simple and elegant Christmas Gift. Some items you can find at your local supermarket! Do you know someone who loves a good Italian meal and doesn't mind cooking it? Great head off to Krogers and get your supplies. Since the items might be a little bigger you might consider a bigger basket. Get you spaghetti or other pasta. Find a jar of decent sauce. ( if you are planning to ship this package I recommend you get a can of Spaghetti Sauce rather than a jar!) Find a little Parmesan cheese and add it to your basket. Now you could also add bread. Depending upon how long it will be until the recipient is able to use the basket will depend upon the bread you buy. If you think they will be able ot open it right away then grab a fresh loaf of Italian bread from your bakery. If you don't want ot to the whole loaf then by some hoagie buns that could pass as a small loaf of bread!. If your recipient is not able to open the package soon then include a bread or biscuit mix in the basket. If you choose you can include some Italian spices, olive oil or a jar of garlic! Now this is about all food wise you can add to your pasta basket. You may want to through in some accessories. Maybe a bottle of wine or just some wine glasses. Maybe a movie ( Ratatouille comes to mind) or maybe some kind of cooking utensil or gadget. Maybe include a magazine from the person's favorite cooking show.

So now you are probably thinking about all gift giving possibilities.  There are a ton of food options when giving a simple and elegant Christmas Gift.  You can do a basket of cookies, a basket of cake decorating items, a basket of wine with glasses.  Maybe you know some one crazy about Coca Cola.  Get them the miniature holiday cokes in a bottle and any kind of coke nostalgia item.  Wrap your basket with a red bow!  There are endless possibilities. You don't have to limit your basket to just food items.  Maybe you know someone who just moved.  Are they in need of cleaning supplies?  Grab an wicker laundry basket and fil it up with household cleaning  items.  You can even use a bucket and fill it up.

Know someone that likes to cook?  Get then a basket full of cooking utensil, rolling pin , measuring cups and bowls.  Color coordinate your items.  It will give a better presentation if you do!.

Fill a basket full of candels and other good smelly stuff.  Get some Febreeze or glade sented candles .  Maybe soem of theose areomatic pine cones.

Know someone that likes to make cookies this time of year?  Get tnem cookie cutters, a dry cookie mix and measuring cups.

Make elegant Christmas Baskets

  • 2 Cups flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 1 cup water

Home made ornaments

A neat addition to any gift basket is a homemade ornament.  Dough ornaments are quick and easy to make.  Just mix the ingredients and roll out dough.  Cut with your favorite shape cookie cutter.  Poke hole at top with straw and bake at 350 for about 15 minute. Once they are cool just paint and add a ribbon.  These ornaments are a great addition to any present too!

There are many simple and elegant Christmas gifts to give this holiday season. With times being tough the most practical of gifts can be appreciated. All it takes it a little imagination and a decorative basket or tin to put it in.  Remember presentation is everything!
