Songs For Mom: 12 Songs To Add To Your Mom's Mother's Day Playlist

Updated on May 6, 2015

Mother's Day is this Sunday. Do you have a gift for your mom yet? If your low on funds this year or if you want to give your mom something more meaningful than a bouquet of flowers, why not create a playlist in her honor? It costs almost nothing to make and your mom will appreciate the fact that you took the time to create a playlist just for her. Plus this will score you bonus points if your mom is a huge music fan. I've complied this list of 12 songs you may or may not have heard before, and they would be perfect to add to your mom's Mother's Day playlist.

1. The Best Day - Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift wrote this song in honor of her mom. It's from her 2008 album "Fearless". I have to admit I am not a fan of Taylor Swift, but I love this song. It perfectly describes my relationship with my mom. I almost feel like Taylor wrote this song for me. I had a hard time in middle school and high school and no matter how bad every school day would be, when I got home, my mom would turn that terrible day into a great one. My mom is my best friend, and this song always makes me cry because it reminds of what a wonderful woman my mom is.

2. Mama - Spice Girls

"Mama" was written by the Spice Girls, Matt Rowe and Richard Stannard as a tribute to the girls mama's. The song was released as a single for their 1998 album "Spice". It perfectly describes the way relationships can be between mothers and their kids during the teen years. Looking back, I feel so bad for the way I acted with my mom sometimes. Even though we're best friends, I wasn't the best daughter and I feel so bad about that. This song is such a beautiful tribute to every mother out there.

4. Dear Mama - 2Pac

"Dear Mama" was written by 2Pac and was released as a single for his 1995 album "Me Against The World". This song is a tribute to his mother Afeni Shakur. In this song 2Pac describes his less than perfect childhood and the struggles he and his family went through. Even though he didn't have the best childhood he explains that he loves his mom and respects her even though they went through a lot of bad times together. The song became an instant hit and is still popular today. Even though it's a rap song, it's very heartfelt and full of emotion. It really shows how much 2Pac loved and respected his mom.

"The Perfect Fan" is from their 2003 album "Millennium". This song wasn't released as a single but it's still a very popular song. It's a beautiful tribute to mother's everywhere.

6. Thank You Mom - Good Charlotte

"Thank You Mom" is from Good Charlotte's self-titled debut album. Benji and Joel Madden wrote this song as a tribute to their single mom. This song wasn't released as a single but it's gained popularity. I love the lyrics to this song. They remind us that we need to show our mom's that we love them and to thank them for everything they have done for us.

7. Mama's Song - Carrie Underwood

"Mama's Song" was written by Carrie Underwood, Kara DioGuardi, Marti Frederiksen, and Luke Laird. It was released as a single for her 2010 album "Play On". In this song Carrie sings to her mother, telling her not to worry as she has met the love of her life, and she is now leaving home and starting a life of her own. She tells her mother that with everything she has taught her, she'll do just fine on her own, and she doesn't need to worry about her. It's a beautiful song from a daughter's perspective to her mother.

9. Mama - Il Divo

"Mama" was released as a single for Il Divo's 2004 self-titled debut album. It was written by Andreas Romdhane, Josef Larossi, and Savan Kotecha. This is such a beautiful song. The lyrics are absolutely beautiful and the group's vocals really bring this song together. This song never fails to make me tear up because it makes me realize how thankful I should be for everything my mom has done for me. I'm so thankful that I'm the woman I am today because of my mother.

10. Because You Loved Me - Celine Dion

"Because You Loved Me" was released as a single for Celine Dion's 1996 album "Falling Into You". The song was written by Diane Warren. This song is more well known as a love song but I think it's the perfect tribute to mother's.

11. Wind Beneath My Wings - Bette Midler

Bette Midler recorded "Wind Beneath My Wings" for the 1988 film "Beaches". Her version became a worldwide hit. "Wind Beneath My Wings" was written in 1982 by Jeff Silbar and Larry Henley. This is another song that always makes me cry. It's such a beautiful song. "Beaches" is one of my mother and I's favorite movies. When i was living at home we would watch this movie quite often. We never got tired of it. I fell in love with this song immediately after watching the movie for the first time. This song always makes me think of my mom. Not just because of our love for the movie "Beaches" but the lyrics remind me of her. My mom is truly my hero. "Wind Beneath My Wings" was originally written as a love song, but it's another one that is perfect for mom's.

Jimmy Dean

12. I.O.U. - Jimmy Dean

"I.O.U." was written by Jimmy Dean and Larry Markes. It was released as a single in 1976. Jimmy Dean doesn't actually sing this song, it's actually a recitation with instrumental backing to it. I think everyone should listen to this song. It's a beautiful, heartfelt tribute to every mother. Our mom's have done so much for us. They've cooked for us, cleaned up after us, and most of all, loved us. I know there is no amount that I could ever think of that would repay my mom for everything she's done for me. My I.O.U. would be more than a thousand pages long.
