Sports Halloween Costumes Men vs Women
People love sports and Halloween is a great opportunity to put on your home team’s uniform or dress up as your favorite player. The idea to include this article in my series on men and women Halloween costumes happened when I was writing Monster Halloween Costumes Men vs. Women. There were no Jason Voorhees’ women halloween Costumes. Instead they had women in hockey jerseys, with Jason’s iconic mask printed on them.
America’s Pastime has a wide variety of Halloween costumes for both men and women. Men costumes have the generic white uniform with colored stripes running down. The pants and long sleeve shirt could blend in with almost any team. The high black socks and baseball cap add some distinction. These uniforms come in the style of everybody’s favorite team or the classic old time look. There is even an option for a manager’s uniform. Women baseball costumes are not that practical to play in, unless the goal is to distract the pitcher. Shorts are not the best thing for sliding into a base and there is not a lot of support up top for running. At least most costumes come in flat shoes, but the high heel option is still available.
Men basketball costumes are designed as if you were playing for your favorite team or the Harlem Globetrotters. Sometime the logo is changed to avoid trademark or royalty issues, but the coloring clearly matches a real NBA team. While men wear the baggy long shorts for playing basketball, women costumes go with the booty shorts. This probably make it less likely to have them fall down. However, the low cut tops make the chances of something else bouncing out of bounds besides the ball very likely. Almost all women costumes come with a head sweatband to help keep sweat and hair out of their eyes, very thoughtful.
Boxing Halloween costumes were the most equal among men and women. The sport itself has its athletes wear very little clothing while they pummel their opponent. The kneehigh shorts, hooded robe and boxing gloves are standard with almost all men boxing costumes. They even have the option to buy some fake padded muscles. This comes in handy, if it has been a while since you hit the gym. Women do not get the fake muscles option. Their shorts are so short they could be briefs. The sports bra or bikini top are standard and most come with a hooded robe. However, their robes go down to the hips. Female boxers also prefer to fight in stiletto heels. Perhaps they want to be prepared, if it gets changed to kickboxing.
Considering cheerleaders in professional sports have the reputation of being eye candy to distract the male fans while nothing is happening, these costumes come pretty close to what I expected. The men cheerleader costumes are full body uniforms modeled after Will Ferrell’s Spartan costume. There are also comedic versions for men to dress like female cheerleaders with ridiculous wigs and exaggerated breasts. When compared to some of the revealing cheerleading uniforms out in the pro sports world, these costumes might be tame. There should be a special note taken to the word “SCORE” written on the underwear of one costume. I have a strange feeling that it does not refer to scoring points in a sporting event.
The full contact sport has come a long way in protecting its players from injuries. It has grown from small pads and a leather helmet, to suiting up in armor like the knights of Medieval times. Men football costumes are made to show off these different time periods. Modern looking uniforms come with or without the pads and there is even one that comes with a huge body costume to wear under the clothing. Women football Halloween costumes skip the padding. These uniforms go with the less clothing to grab on to, the harder it will be to drag them down in a tackle. Although, it will be difficult to run for 100 yards with their high heel shoes digging into the ground. No, a heel does not work the same as a cleat.
I am going to blame the Caddyshack movie on these golf costumes. Two of the men costumes bear a remarkable resemblance to Bill Murray and Rodney Dangerfield’s characters. This is interesting since Bill Murray’s character didn’t play golf, but was the groundskeeper. The other men golf costumes also take a more comedic approach. Women golf costumes go the sex appear route. Some of these costumes look like they are more practical for getting a tan than playing a round of golf. At least they all come with hats and visors to keep the sun out of their eyes, but they better be careful picking up their balls in those short skirts.
Despite this article being inspired by Jason Voorhees, I could not find any mass market male Halloween hockey costumes. All costume shops had for sale were the hockey masks and most were for a Jason Voorhees disguise. If men want to dress up as hockey players for Halloween, they will have to buy a jersey at their local sports shop. There were a few women hockey costumes available, but I do not think they were designed for playing on the ice. The heels are probably just as deadly as an ice skate blade, but there is not much else to protect them from the cold or getting slammed against the wall. At least they come with hockey sticks, so you know what sport they are supposed to be playing.
Race Car Driver
Male race car driver costumes look a lot like a cheap version of what you would expect a racer to wear. These outfits are called cool suits, because they keep drivers cool from the intense temperatures in the car’s cab and fully cover the body to protect the driver from solid objects, superheated metal and possible flames when the car crashes. Female racer costumes incorporate the checkered pattern that is synonymous with the sport of race car driving and then go off in a bunch of different direction. They go with the theory that you want to wear less clothes to stay cool. Since the shirts split open at the chest, it seems like carrying a checkered flag to catch the drivers attention is a little redundant.
Men soccer costumes could be worn as uniforms on the field. There are not a lot of variations. Men can buy these uniforms in different colors and the shirts come in long or short sleeve. Women soccer costumes do not offer a large variety of choices. Just like men, they come in lots of different colors. All of the women uniforms come with short shorts and t-shirts. Their big choice comes from wearing a shirt that covers the midriff or not.
It was difficult to find any mass market tennis costumes. This is probably because the outfits are similar to what people would wear everyday and real tennis outfits are relatively inexpensive. The one male costume I did find was very plain and had the male model in a silly pose. The one female costume I could find had the standard short skirt, but the top looked more like a corset than a shirt. Once again we find the need for sellers to show both the front and back of the woman’s costume, but not the man’s.
A male referee costume is exactly how you would imagine. The black pants and striped shirt are a common referee uniform and a whistle around the neck is standard issue. Women referee costumes keep the famous color pattern, but the fabrics cut take on endless possibilities. Mini skirts, short shorts, hot pants and anything else that shows of the legs are standard. The tops have nothing standard to their cut or fit. They come with a whistle, but I don’t think fans will care what the players are doing on the field when the referees are wearing these uniforms.
The costumes above were displayed multiple times in google image search results. These are the sites that I went to for the images. If you know of an image that belongs to a different site please let me know in the comment section below and I will make sure to give appropriate credit.
