Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope 1977

I can remember standing in a very long line to see the very first Star Wars movie, which opened in theater May 25,1977. People were flocking to the theaters to see this brand new Science Fiction movie starring Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher.

In this film we met Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia Organa, Sith Lord Darth Vader, Jedi Masters Obi-Wan Kenobe, and Yoda, and Chewbacca the Wookie. And let's not forget those loveable droids, R2-D2 and 3-CPO. We fell in love with some of the characters and really disliked others. We still do ... that's why there are so many Valentine's Day cards with these Galactic Rebels as the theme. If you love a fan of the George Lucas films, you are going to find a great card that you can print out and best of all, it will be free.

Well fans were hooked, myself included. This was a great movie and we couldn't wait until the next one was released. It took a couple years, but when Film Star Wars Episode V : The Empire Strikes Back was released on May 21, 1980, we all rushed right back to the theater to watch it. I can still hear the music in my head and I can see the writing on the screen: "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away ...

Jedi Master Yoda One For Me

Master Yoda

Master Yoda is a powerful Jedi Master and teacher. He is only 66 cm tall ... that equals 2 feet and 1.98425 inches. Short, he might be, but brave and strong, he is. Did you know Yoda taught Jedi warriors for over 800 years? Yoda was a brilliant swordsman and in fighting scenes he can be seen twirling and flying through the air. He was known for his wisdom but this Jedi Master also had a sense of humor and loved to play practical jokes. This card is cute as can be - Yoda one for me!

Yoda doesn't seem to have a love interest in the movies but he certainly has many loving fans who adore him.

  1. Yoda was born in 896 BBY (BBY means Before The Battle Of Yavin)
  2. Yoda died 4 ABY (After the Battle of Yavin)
  3. Yoda lived to be 900 years old
  4. Yoda is 2 feet and 1.98425 inches tall and weighs 37.4 pounds

Han Solo And Princess Leia Organa

One of the most romantic quotes from Star Wars is between Han Solo and Princess Leia Organa. " I Love You ... I Know". Of course, Han is on his way into Carbon Freeze when he and Leia say this. Not such good timing, is it? I hope your Valentine's Day goes better for you than that scene did for them.

Han is a pilot who smuggles contraband and Princess Leia Organa is a leader in the Rebel Alliance. The two don't seem like a likely pair, but in the end we are all happy to find them in love. Leia is Luke Skywalker's twin sister. The two were separated after their birth to keep Anakin Skywalker (soon to be Sith Lord Vader) away from them.

Did you know that:

  1. Han Solo was almost a green skinned alien? Good thing George Lucas changed his mind about that!
  2. Billy Dee Williams almost got the part of Han.
  3. Leia's birth name is Leia Amidala Skywalker.
  4. She is Luke Skywalker's twin sister and the daughter of Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala.
  5. She was raised as a princess on the planet of Alderaan.
  6. Leia and Han marry and have 3 children, 2 of them die.

Luke Skywalker

Luke Skywalker is Darth Vader's son and Princess Leia's twin brother. Luke was raised on a farming planet, Tatooine, where he was brought up by Beru and Owen Lars. Luke helped the droids, R2-D2 and 3CPO deliver a message to Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Luke is young and good looking, but in Star Wars he doesn't get the girl ... which is a really good thing since she is his sister.

  1. Luke was raised by his Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru on Tatooine.
  2. The family name Skywalker was originally Starkiller.
  3. Luke is Leia's twin brother. He is the older twin.
  4. Obi-Wan Kenobi lived on Tatooine to watch over Luke.
  5. Owen and Beru were killed by Boba Fett and that's when Luke decided to go with Obi-Wan to become a Jedi.

Darth Vader

Darth Vader is a cyborg, part man and part machine. His real name is Anakin Skywalker and he is the father of Princess Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker. He was married to Queen Padme Amidala.

The hated and feared Vader is listed at number 3 on the American Film Institute's list of the greatest villains of the cinema. He was beaten out for the number 1 and number 2 spot by Hannibal Lecter and Norman Bates. Now that is scary.

  1. Darth Vader was Anakin Skywalker, father of Luke and Leia.
  2. He was born in 41.9 BBY.
  3. Anakin became a Jedi in 22 BBY.
  4. Darth Vader was played by David Prowse and his voice was from actor James Earl Jones.
  5. Orson Wells was almost chosen to be the voice of Darth Vader.
  6. According to Anakin's mother, Shmi, he did not have a father. It leads us to believe that he was created by the "FORCE".
  7. He actually is "The Chosen One". It is he who kills the Emperor in the end.

In the latest sequel, R2-D2 is said to have been stored in a low power setting on the planet D'Qar. When he is powered up he helps find the missing Jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Star Wars: A Very Vader Valentine's Day (Star Wars (Scholastic))

Ewok Love! Let's Hear It For Wicket!

What do you know about Wicket the Ewok? Introduced to us in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, he was small, furry, and brave. He was among the first Ewok to help the Rebel Alliance fight against the Emperor. The Ewoks flew using hang gliders and fought hand to hand with knives and spears. They had guts! And Ewok made the cutest, most cuddly plush toy.

Nuv is the Ewok's word for Love.

Ee chee wa maa! is the word for Wow.

The Ewok lived on the forest moon of the planet Endor and lived in a tree village. They were a close community. I loved these little guys! Did you know that:

  1. George Lucas got the idea for the Ewok's look from one of his dogs, Griffon Bruxellois. They too are small, furry, and brave.
  2. The Ewok language in the movies is based on a Russian dialect.
  3. Warwick Davis is the actor behind the Wicket costume and he was 11 years old when he got the role.
  4. Their language is called Ewokese.

The only Wicket the Ewok Valentine's Day card I could find also has Chewbacca on it and if you didn't see it, go back up the page and you will.
