Funny babies eating first birthday cakes

Updated on September 4, 2013

A smash cake for your baby's 1st birthday

The results of giving your baby a smash cake for his or her 1st birthday can really be quite comical, even hilarious. Using hopefully minimal and inexpensive ingredients so as not to have too much waste, you can bake a cake for your baby and let him dig right into it. Here in the USA, it is a pretty common tradition that offers a great, funny photography and/or video opportunity on your baby's first birthday.

Some of the more conservative might feel that this is a bit ridiculous and wasteful and might choose to give the baby just one slice of cake on his birthday. You also don't want him to get sick from ingesting too much of the sweet cake.

Neverthelesss, conservative or not, you can not deny that it can be really funny when you watch a baby dig into his 1st birthday smash cake. If you do choose to give your baby a smash cake, you can just acknowledge a time limit when you should take it away from him and not let him eat too much of it.

Baby smash cake videos

Most internet browsers know about how YouTube videos link from one related topic to another. Perhaps you have perused YouTube for ideas on how to make a kid's birthday cake or you have a particular cake theme in mind such as a bumblebee or a panda cake. When you look around, you might find these types of smash cake videos on YouTube as well.

Favorite 1st birthday cake or smash cake videos

Personally, when I got to looking at some of these baby's 1st birthday cake videos, I was so amused. Below are my favorite ones.

In the first video, the child is very serious and tentative at first as if to say, "What is this (cake) you are putting in front of me". He eventually warms up and digs into the cake, making his family laugh a lot. As he eats the cake, he seems to see that it is delicious and wants more and more of it as is almost always the case when babies are given sweet cake.

The last of the four videos features adorable twin little girls dressed in blue and pink. One of the twins approaches her smash cake very tentatively at first and the other twin digs right into hers. You might notice the sizes of the cakes in this particular video are smaller and better for minimizing the waste. A lot of people are justified in not liking the thought of wasting food (even an inexpensive dessert) when so many other people in the world may be experiencing the effects of hunger.

Perhaps, you, your spouse and close family (the siblings of the baby) will help him to eat the cake even after he has smashed into it. In the third video of Jarrett's birthday cake, a little girl (who I think we can safely assume is his sister) is not shy about helping herself to some of the cake right alongside him. She actually encourages him into eating more of it himself.

Smash cakes at 1st birthday parties

If you are not alone with your baby but you are having a large first birthday party or family gathering, you can make presenting the smash cake to your baby a part of the party schedule. When everyone gathers around the baby for the smash cake and the picture taking, it can lighten the party mood even further and have everyone laughing!
