Thank You Windy Day

Updated on November 24, 2011

Thank You

Thank you Windy Day

I walk carefully to one side

you rudely toss me around and around

in a mass of leaves

and I can't fight it.

I end up losing half my papers

and sliding on the wet grass

looking up at the blue sky

wondering if the rain is done

Thank you Windy Day

I put on my knitted hat

button up my long coat

sling my long leather purse

heavily over my shoulder

thinking I'll begin again

pushing up from the ground

my boots getting stuck in my wool skirt

I may look funny

but I get up

and here you come again

pushing me this time

all the way to my car

where i can shut you out

no matter how much you moan outside

Thank you windows and safety glass.

Driving around in circles I listen

to some country man who knows my ambition

to set off on this old highway

and find me some byway

back to the home I once knew

with family, friends, and attitude

before I knew heartbreak

before I knew despair

Its just that time of year

they'll all be gathered near

I crack my little window

and hear the safe little wind howling so

showing me the way home.

Hello driver's seat

you don't skip a beat

these roads haven't changed

just a little rearranged

that same tree still stands

on someone's new land

where our house used to be

before we moved to the country

Hello city lights

Just past town

that's where they'll all be now

in townhouses and condos

times are changin, doncha know?

But that smile so wide when I open the door

Is all the same as it was before

It takes me back

how long has it been?

Hello Mom and Dad

Laughing, smiles and holding close

I don't get enough of those

Watching Ravens football

in Momma's room

While Poppa hides,

That's women's stuff.

Thanksgiving dinner on the table

Dressing, turkey, gravy ladled

Sweet potatoes, corn and greens,

Stiffing, cranberries, and Lima beans,

fresh bread, real butter, mashed potatoes,

sausage, horseradish, fresh tomatoes,

sparkling drinks, coke, and wine,

Hello Feast.....

Let's not forget..everyone who can't be here'

those in our hearts, we hold so dear'

a blessing sent to those near and far

and lots of love for their celebrations.

Thank you internet.

Thank you photographs

Thank you conversations

Thank you departed ones

Thank you close at heart

Thank you Thank you Thank you

Thank our military

Thank our government

Thank our Constitution

Thank our God above

The Earth below

Angels here among us

Thank all you faerie folk,,,,

What...okay , you can eat.

Thank you my friends, and have a happy and safe holiday whether you celebrate or not - and whatever you may celebrate...

Movie Master, I hope you had a great day! I just love Alanis, something about her makes me sing at the top of my lungs with her songs...without an audience. This is one for the shower in the morning, makes me happy all day! (sorry for the scary visual!)

Hello my sweet Sister Erin. I'm feeling thankful after reading your poem. I'm thankful that you made the trip home in the wind and all of your loved ones were there to greet you. Isn't it wonderful? That's what makes Thanksgiving so special.. Love ya..

Hi Dawn! Thanks for leaving a comment - and Happy Thanksgiving! Its so good to see you - knowing we share a common past and all for the holidays! I am working on that book, slowly but surely although college is taking over these days - finishing my Bachelor's and sucking up all of my writing time. I will not miss the game tonight though. Hey, check out the Ravens vs. Steelers piece I wrote, I think you'll enjoy it - I've been updating it.

      Love ya little sis!

Thanks Becky, Happy Thanksgiving - it was so late when I wrote this last night, had to be 2 in the morning. I apologize for the misspellings you dealt with! They're fixed now. :) Have a great day!
