The Biggest and Best Christmas Wish List Ever

Updated on November 29, 2013
Xmas Wish Lists
Xmas Wish Lists

A 'Wish List' for Christmas? Oh, please - May we Talk?

With all due respect - It's naught but a Crock!

Waking twin monsters named 'Bigger' and 'More',

True meaning of Christmas? More trips to the Store!

Rewarded for 'Being' - Whether Naughty or Nice,

Toys, TV's, iPhones? Can we mention these Twice?

With long lists to produce - All for Me, Me, and Mine,

Not a moment to spare for the Hungry and Crying!

Merry Christmas To All...

I do hope that lot of people, I mean parents, read your hub and pause a second when they tell their wards about Christmas and the spirit of sharing. Our world badly needs more compassion and less of 'me, me and mine'. That being said, I must add that the message did not overwhelm the fun and joyful note of your poem. I loved reading it. Sharing it for others to enjoy too.

Well, Hello on this Christmas Day! Santa knows I'm always good: I never have any temptation (darn it!).

I didn't buy any gifts this year cause I'm broke. I just made cookies and gingerbread men. Even grown people love a GB man with their name on it.

Hope you have a wonderful day, Mary

You've seen my words and face here before

so now you're wondering what else is in store.

Don't fret, my friend, this is not a blast

nor even a visit of ghost from Christmas past.

I thought, "What better place in which to say

I wish you peace and love on Christmas day!"

Merry Christmas, Leslie! I hope it's a great one for you and your family! Stay safe and keep the smile!

Beautifully put... this is the first year I did not do any xmas shopping. It was out of necessity, and it was such a relief! I will pick up a few small items for a few people, just to take a minute to show them I care. Nothing extravagent, all things they can use. I have spent my time taking care of my needs, and helping family and friends. That is better than shopping for things nobody even needs. And I sent xmas cards, real ones, by snail mail, because I still send cards, because I think they are special.

I recently visited a friend and she was so stressed about how many gifts to get her daughters and what things to buy. Both girls are under two years old! They don't even understand presents yet! I told her she is being crazy! I think I will send her this poem.

      THANK YOU FOR THIS!

Voted up and beautiful. Inspirational. We need to spread the love among family and friends at Christmas and be compassionate to those in need. If a child has a loving family then the need for many gifts is not necessary. It is the goodness and warmth that need to fill hearts at Christmas. Great and fantastic wish list. Passing this on.

I remember coming here one night when I could barely see (medical, not alcohol). I thought, "I need to come back here and comment." By scanning the miles of comments, I don't see that I ever did. My apologies. I also see that every base has been covered, so anything I now mention will only be a duplication. So, let me just say we have many thoughts that travel the same paths, and I wish you the merriest of Christmas. I wonder if there's a yule time version of the Beach Boys, "Wouldn't it be nice" available? Great job!

Leslie, this poem really hits home. So well stated from beginning to end and voted WAY UP!

From the time my daughter was very small, we made Wish Lists at Christmas but there was a bit of a difference. It was understood that these things were for others. When we shopped, my little girl was delighted to search out the perfect gifts for other children she would never know. It was like a secret. We had what was called an Angel Tree in our town and you picked envelopes off the tree, opened it, and discovered if it was a boy or girl and how old they were. Then you delivered the gift, unwrapped but hidden in a bag, and placed it under the tree. It was my daughter's chance to be a Christmas angel and she took it very seriously.

We shopped for groceries the same way and selected things for everyone from babies to elderly people then dropped them off at the church anonymously. It was our Christmas secret.

Later, when we went through very difficult times together, it was not a matter of crisis that we had nothing for us. My daughter was more concerned about missing the Angel Tree so we opted to spend what little we had that way. That was the year magic happened and I think this is the year to tell the story so I'll have to get busy. I'm very proud of the caring young woman she has grown to be.

Thank you so much for spreading the message of love and caring!

You're sooo right - not only has christmas lost all spiritual meaning - it's become an actual freak show! I don't care what one believes in or not - this is a time of year where EVERYONE could just take a breather from hate and greed - but NOOOOOOO....that's verboten - when one needs to keep up with the jones'es'es'es and please the monsters we've created ourselves!

Awesome poem, Leslie! Christmas has lost its meaning and people have lost their concern for others. We live in a me, me, me world where those who are high on the rungs of the corporate ladder shun and condemn. Oh yeah, they may hurry up and make a contribution for the tax year is up. But is it heartfelt or only a tax write-off?

What i found was that at this time of the year - there is an OVER-abundance of volunteers - and yet - and any other time - there's not enough...

I don't need the glory and they don't need me - i'll donate time in jan..or feb..or, or or...

Another great Poem... with a wonderful idea tucked inside. With all most of us have, surely the idea of making a list of 'wants' is obscene... a list of what you can 'give' and 'who' you should give it to, is much more in keeping with the Season... and the Reason.

A number of years ago, I decided that everyone on my gift list, especially the children, had way more of everything than they really needed, and certainly my friends and family didn't 'need' anything I could afford to give them... so I decided to give my money to an organization that would use it to take a person off the street for 3 nights and 2 days over Christmas, provide them with a warm bed, 3 square each day, hot showers, clean clothes and also give them a new jacket and blanket. I sent each family on my gift giving list a card that said that a street person received the above gift in their honor... of all the people who were on my list, only ONE thought it was a good idea... some actually were Mad at me that I didn't buy 'them' a gift... certainly NOT in keeping with the Spirit of the Season. Great Poem. Sharing.

Lovely idea, and so true. Christmas could have a hugely different meaning in this world, starting this year! Thanks.

I knew you had a kind heart and it shines brightly in this clever play on words from an old Christmas classic. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we all taught our kids to give a gift to a child instead of making a long list. Great addition to the H.O.W. movement. Cheers.

ok...we'll compromise. I'll be in charge of you...you can be in charge of "The Rules of the World"...and someone else can enforce them. Would that work for you? It would for me! lol.

Well put; thank you. Before I got ill, I was extremely big with Toy for Tots. It took 2 years t get people off their ****** butts. Once they saw I didn't give up and I managed to to gather over $10,000 in toys, volunteers were flocking to my side. by the 14th of 2009 my volunteers had raised $42,000 worth of toys (per the Marine Corps) and toys were still coming in.

@Mpropp: Omg - i would never suggest NO gifts for the kiddies...lol...i only suggest that they learn to appreciate it by reaching out to those less fortunate - or more needy..

Going into debt to satisfy material wants just makes no sense in this day and age - and any kid who throws a fit that they didn't get what they ordered needs to be shown to a tech-free bedroom..(and so do their parents...OOPS...)

      lol...

Thanks for taking the time to stop by, dear!

      HI Leslie,

Another good hub piece :) I definitely agree that more people who celebrate Christmas ( and maybe even those who don't) could use Christmas as a time for giving to others who are unfortunate, rather than being greedy and in giving only to family and friends they know.

Since Christmas is a Christian holiday, the anniversary of the day Jesus was born, I don't think it's wrong to say that what you're saying is what people mean by putting "the Christ" back in Christmas.

Christmas should be more about giving than receiving and about thankfulness and love, I agree. It hard to see Jesus going crazy about designer jeans at Bloomies, isn't it :)

A very good hub focusing on the real meaning of Christmas. Because of your compassionate heart and kindness to others, God will make you a blessing to others. You still haven't told me what you want for Christmas? lol.

Whether it's a new Barbie Doll or a G-I. Joe, every year for Christmas I buy two unwrapped gifts for a boy and girl & donate for Toys for Tots. I've been doing this for years. They usually have a drop off box inside the post office. My family& me contribute to St. Jude children's research hospital, the Humane Society, the muscular dystrophy foundation among others. voting up and around the globe.
