The Easter Gift Festival in Moscow

Updated on March 26, 2018

Spring is the time for sincere feelings and good deeds. The warmest spring festival, Easter Gift, will welcome guests from 7 to 15 April at 38 different venues in Moscow’s streets and squares, parks and areas outside cathedrals. Visitors will be offered delicious traditional Easter treats from Moscow caterers, and a wide range of souvenirs. Both adults and children will surely enjoy various shows, plays, creative workshops and other fun activities completely free of charge. Most importantly, the festival will present an opportunity to share your warmth through a number of charitable projects.

Kindness Every Day

The key feature of the Easter Gift festival is in its charitable events. During the festival days, the Muscovites and the tourists will learn about Russia’s largest charitable foundations. They will get a chance to help their work – for instance, by giving their donations via a text message or participating in a charitable auction. Children will be able to make Easter souvenirs and cards and offer them to the foundations.

Tverskaya Square will carry on the kind tradition of the Moscow Easter festivals by hosting charitable balls on weekends.

New Arbat Street will be all about books and reading. Large publishing houses will offer their books at the book fair, and will donate a part of their revenue to charity.

Tverskoy Boulevard will focus on supporting homeless animal foundations. Visitors will learn how to take care of their pets, as well as how to choose a new friend from a shelter. They will also be able to purchase cat and dog food and donate it to charitable foundations.

Perhaps the most unusual venue will open in the very heart of Russia’s capital. The space between Manezhnaya Square and Revolution Square will turn into a golf field - the most aristocratic and elegant sport.

The Easter golf will welcome any player who makes a charitable donation via a text message. Film actors, famous musicians and other performers will also take part in the event.

On weekends, guests will have a chance to participate in charitable auctions and play golf with Russian celebrities who are also charitable foundation ambassadors. Open golf practice held by lead Russian golf players will help you hone and perfect your skills.

Best Theatre Plays, Portable Bell Tower and Stained Glass Workshop

This year, Theatre is the key theme of the Moscow Seasons festivals, and Easter Gift is no exception. This festival will offer you quite a number of plays by lead theatres of Moscow and other regions of Russia.

Manezhnaya Square and Revolution Square will show inclusive plays by winners of the Gold Mask National Theatre Award.

Creative workshops will welcome both adults and children.

Fori instance, Klimentovsky Alley will be all about Easter bells, featuring a bell tower in the form of a semantron – a unique musical instrument invented in Russia. Visitors will be able to enjoy a performance by Moscow musicians, as well as try playing semantron.

During the Festival days, Tverskaya Square will open a stained glass workshop and an Easter Lounge, where guests will learn Easter embroidery and different styles and traditions of egg painting. The Lounge will include an Easter card workshop. In the Kitchen pavilion, we will be making Kulich Easter cakes and marzipan, and listen to fascinating stories about Moscow’s Easter festivities, including culinary traditions.

The annual Easter Gift festival will be held as part of the Moscow Seasons series of urban street events. The festival premiered in 2014, and in 2017, three million Moscow residents and tourists visited Easter Gift venues.
