The Perfect Fourth of July Beer Brats!

How to construct the perfect beer brats

Lets just say these have to be the best picnic, camping, block party, Memorial day, or 4th of July staples on the grill. Start with your favorite style of bratwurst even italian sausage works (6 links). Open and pour approximately 3.5 12oz cans of a heavy dark or lager beer of your choosing into a pot large enough for all the beer and the sausages. Cut 1/3 of cup of yellow sweet onion into stripes. Add all 6 of the sausages,and the 1/3 cup sliced onion and all 3.5 beers what you do with the extra half a can is up to you ;). Now while the brats, beer and onions are brought to a simmer for approximately 15 minutes, get a large pan and add 1.5 cups sliced onion and 1 tablespoon of butter. Cook the onions slow and low to soften and lightly carmelize (approxiamtely 15 minutes).

After the Bratwurst have simmered, Place on a hot grill for approximately 5 to 10 minutes to finish cooking and add those great grill marks. (NEVER PIERCE THE BRATWURST!!) Use a nice set of tongs.

Now after the bratwursts have been grilled, the onions softened and carmelized it is time to assemble this delicous meal. Take one of the Hogie rolls and cut it lengthwise, smear a nice portion of a "DELI" mustard, add some of the soften onions and top it off with that perfect beer brat! Take a big bite and enjoy!! On a hot summer day nothing is more refreshing than some Southern Peach Lemonade.

  • deli mustard
