The Ever popular Boxing Day

Boxing Day the day after Christmas Day where people go out and shop or return things that either they had double of or they needed to exchange a size. Some people may choose to shop limitlessly or at least it feels that way. Boxing Day- Think about the term Boxing Day, What is boxing day? Boxing Day is a holiday celebrated on the day following Christmas Day, when servants and tradesmen would traditionally receive gifts known as a "Christmas box" from their masters, employers or customers, in the United Kingdom and Commonwealth nations, In today's day, Boxing Day is the day that people go shopping and brave the stores with limitless amounts of people in them to spend their Christmas money or return things. That is what it is, isn't it? The returning what they didn't like at Christmas part that is. However, it has become more of a shopping day then a return what you don't want from Christmas type of thing. What with the limitless deals that you find when going to the stores at the mall or around town. Boxing day is also a day that you spend with family or for the most part what most people do if they haven't seen all their family over the two days that is Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. But it has become a day of shopping over the last couple of years.

Boxing Day is a day to do your returns of Christmas gifts that you already had, and need to return or something you received didn’t fit and you need to return it. That is the point of Boxing Day, that is what happened years ago, but now people take it as another shopping day. With all the sales on Boxing Day, people have decided to go and shop for the things on their Christmas lists that they didn’t receive. Or if they got Christmas money they would go and spend it on Boxing Day.

Have you ever went shopping on Boxing Day? What is it like? I remember a time one year when I went shopping on Boxing Day. Oh wow was it is a zoo, there is no other word to describe it. The mall open’s at nine am on boxing day and by the time you get there, there is wall to wall people walking the halls and through the stores. I went one year because I had never been and I wanted to see what it was like. If you don’t like crowds I would advise you to stay home and not go out to any store. The stores are packed and the change rooms are locked so yes there are people trying on clothes in the aisle ways to see if they fit, I was one of them.

I remember spending about an hour and a half to two hours in line waiting to pay for an item in a specific store. That is how busy it was, although I couldn’t tell you what I purchased because it was years ago, all I know is I came home with maybe three dollars left. I bought a lot of stuff because of the sales, but that was the first and only time I went for boxing day sales, and I decided on that day, that I would either shop online for boxing day if I really needed something or I just wouldn’t shop at all.

I haven’t been back since, I have had a family gathering on Boxing Day, so shopping at the mall could not be done. I don’t miss it, by no means. I know that boxing day is a day to exchange the gifts that you have that are duplicate or are too big or too small, but shouldn’t it be about spending time with family? I know that you are probably like well I spent time with family Christmas and eve and Christmas day, but what about those people that have huge families and they can’t get together with them over the two days? Those people usually get together on Boxing Day and in my opinion that is the way to do it.

Shop, Shop, Shop on Boxing Day

I am not saying that I won’t be going shopping on boxing day again because I probably will in the future but after the experience, I had a couple of years ago I can wait to go back. What do you all do on Boxing Day, shop stay with family, sleep in? Sleeping in is another thing that I like to do on boxing day because of how busy my Christmas is I like to sleep in and take a slower day on boxing day. Boxing Day is a day to relax and regroup after being so busy, with Christmas don’t you think?

Take a break before New Year’s, relax and regroup. It is a busy time of year Christmas so I think that the point of Boxing Day was to give yourself a break, although most people don’t see it that way. They see it as shopping and spending more time with family, I can understand if you don’t see all your family over the two days, but if you do shouldn’t you just relax. Maybe do a little bit of shopping but don’t go over bored, that is not what Christmas is about and it is definitely not what boxing day is about. Relax spend time with family, regroup before New Year’s because I know how busy that can be too, maybe it isn’t busy for some people but for my family the entire two weeks and about two weeks before Christmas is crazy and you just need a break in between Christmas and New Years. Don’t you agree? I know that I am busy on boxing day this year, but that is because I have more family to see, what is everyone else doing on boxing day, do you take the time for yourself and your family, do you shop or are you busy just like me? Or do you box as a sport on boxing day?

Boxing Day is the day where people spend limitless hours in- lines waiting to cash out because the shopping deals are just that good or at least that is what most people think. To me, boxing day is a day to relax, and be with family or just stay at home and do nothing since you have been with the family for two days straight already. People need alone time too during the holidays and I think that is what boxing day is for now but that is just my opinion.

The question is why is Boxing Day so popular now than it was before? Is it because the deals are so good, or is it something else, because in the last few years when you talk to people about their boxing day shopping they say there weren't very many good deals, so why is it so popular still? It must be so popular because the people who shop on boxing day love to hunt for deals and that is what makes it so popular. Or is it the fact that it has been around for so long that people just get excited about the prospect of what they are going to find when they go out on boxing day?

These are just a few of the limitless questions that come to mind when I think about boxing day, what about you?
