Things I Would Say To My Mother If She Were Alive Today: A Tribute To My Mother
A Shadow Box I Made Of Mother's Handmade Things

My Mother
My Mother was a little woman, not quite five feet tall. She weighed a little too much. Most of the excess weight was in her belly. I liked to watch her when she laugh, because her belly would jiggle. My Mother laughed a lot.
She had a natural wit. My Daddy teased her a lot, but she always had a “come back” for him.
Mother was my best friend. If I could just be half the person she was, I would be happy. She was a simple woman with simple desires. Her main desire was to be a good Mother, and she did that. I hope she knew while she lived how much I loved her and thanked her for all she did for me. I think she knew, but if she were alive today these are just some of the things I would say to her.

My Bouquet Of Roses For My Mother

Thank You, Mother
Thank you for rocking and singing to me when I was a baby,
For keeping me safe and secure wrapped in your love,
For kissing my “boo boos” when I fell down learning to walk,
For making all the little dresses I wore to school,
For packing thousands of school lunches to me to eat,
For making me do my homework when I didn’t want to,
For making me to go Sunday School and learn the Ten Commandments
For driving me many miles; places I really didn’t have to go,
For taking me shopping even though your feet must have hurt,
For teaching me to cook, sew, and all the arts of housekeeping,
For instilling in me your love of nature and God’s creatures,
For teaching me the value of a dollar and how to save for a rainy day,
For always being there for me for every school function,
For sitting on hard bleachers to watch me play ball,
For all the encouragement you gave me when I thought I would fail,
For doing without new clothes yourself to make sure there was enough money for me to go to camp and take field trips,
For letting me spread my wings to fly away to a college far away,
For somehow managing to find the money to send me there,
For trusting me to make the right decisions in life,
For the many prayers you offered on my behalf,
If I could, I would thank you for everything you ever did for me. I would tell you how much I loved you and missed you. I would give you a big bouquet of red roses from my garden.
Someday I will have that chance when we see each other again in Heaven.

What a beautiful tribute to your mom Mary! How I wish I have a chance to say those lovely words you mentioned. Sadfully my mother is in heaven, too. Advance Mother´s Day! We have Mother´s Day on Sunday here in Germany.
Hi Mary,
I came back to get your link of this beautiful tribute. I had to finish replying to comments.
God bless you
Oh, Mary, this is the most beautiful tribute ever, so heartrending. I believe you are so much like your mother more than you realize. I just know she knows just how much you love her.
I praise God every day for blessing me with such a wonderful mother in this life. It will be a lovely day when I see her sweet smiling face again.
You are an amazing daughter.
I know this is a Mother's Day tribute, but being this month is Celebrating Women Month, if you do not mind, I would love to link this beauty of a hub on my celebrating women hub.
Looks like you published this two years ago, so I did not know you then but I had just joined HP.
I love the shadow box full of your mother's special treasures. Wonderful idea.
Up ++++ tweeting, pinning, G+ and sharing
God bless you, lovely woman
What a beautiful tribute! I love the shadow box. It's such a great idea to commemorate a loved one in that way.
Mothers are there to fulfill our every need as we are growing up. Love your special message. Blessings, Debby
Im 13 right now and im afraid to face the facts that my mom and dad are going to pass away i don't think i can stand the reality that the people ive grown up all my life with will someday be gone off somewhere else. Ive always wondered what happens when you pass away. Always make good decisions, love your parents as much as you can and enjoy life to the fullest.
Lovely. You were blessed to have such a Godly mother. This tribute is very much what my mom was all about. Have a great Mother's Day!
Made a return visit to this Mary and enjoyed it again; very touching. We had mother's day in March and I thought about all of my friends who no longer have their mams and it made me appreciate mine all the more.
Beautiful and heart-touching!
Hi Mary, I think this is a beautiful hub. It sounds like your mother gave you the building blocks for living a blessed life. The Lord seems to have his hand on her and you and it's really nice to wake up to first thing this morning. Voting this up and I'm sharing.
Oh Mary - this was absolutely gorgeous - and heart wrenching! Mother's day is a difficult time for me also - as i lost my mother in 1998 - to GAMBLING!
one day - she just....lost her mind - and within a year had completely disassociated with her entire (very small) family - including me AND my kids - her only 2 grandchildren..
i've naught put that in writing before, but - after reading so many tributes to missed mothers who have passed - it's hard to express feelings for a missed mother - who has NOT passed..
wow..that was cathartic..
sorry..
Just a beautiful mothers day thank you and I love you article Mary, wow I enjoyed each and every line you managed to scribe here. I agree with Joseph De Cross the keywords " I love you mom" is very fitting here indeed. You expressed such a thing in so many wonderful ways and I commend you on rendering such a love back towards your mother.
Reading this hub actually brought back memories of my mother and I miss her as well, she is up there in heaven with you mom celebrating the glory of it all for sure.
Thumbs up and out Mary, you truly are blessed and your mom has done a lovely job for sure!
Excellent hub and interesting hub.. thanks for sharing...
Mary, This is wonderful poem. A mother is first woman in anyone's life and she is the most beautiful and gorgeous woman but more than that she is the one whose love is selfless. She always looks for the betterment of her children. Very appropriate poem for the mothers day. Sharing this hub here and voting up.
Hi Mary,
With Mother's Day only 2 days away, it is a time of year that those of us who have lost our mothers can't help but be reminded of them...not that we don't think of them often anyway. I know that you do and not a day goes by that I do not think of my wonderful mother. Wishing you a very Happy Mother's Day of your own and will once again share this sweet hub with my followers.
O Mary
How sweet and heartfelt this is...Our Mothers did teach us so many things that we may not have understood the reason for at the time but that we found out to be so true later!!!
Thank you for sharing this remarkable Mother with us...
Angels are on the way :) ps
Mary,
Aw, thanks. I guess we were quite lucky to have some June Cleavers, you don't see many of those around these days. I knew the minute I read this hub and your profile that you have a lot of love to give and those you give it to have to feel it. I'm going to have to check out that other hub! Thank you so much... you made my day!
Hugs back to you!

Mary,
Good morning to you too! You know it's funny... I've always adored my mother and I realized very early how lucky I was (I had something of a June Cleaver) kind of mother. Of course, I made the typical Handmade Mommy things at school and always kissed her goodnight and said I loved her. But just a couple of years ago, with 2 kids of my own now, I was driving down the road, some sad song playing on the radio and I got thinking about how hard being a mother really is. How much love is needed and how everything that matters is our kids. How we don't even give second thought to making their needs met and then some. How nobody really stops and says "Thank you" every day. I had some kind of epiphany of how my mother mananged to be a great wife and even better mother, to 3 children and I don't remember having heard a whole lot of thank yous in those 18 years or so, though she could've used several a day. I called her crying... I could barely get the words out I was crying so hard. I told her that I just wanted her to know how much I love her, how great of a mother she had been and I would be honored to be half the mother she was, she cried and I know it meant a lot. In comparison to what they do, mothers are probably thanked the least. I love that you did this, it is so important! You have a wonderful Mother's Day as well and thank you!

Mary615,
Thank you and the same to you! I don't think you can ever say it enough; my mother is still fortunately alive and I tell myself that I need to say it more! Having your own kids puts it into perspective doesn't it?
Mary615,
This is so very beautiful and something we can all relate too. I'm guessing you said these things, not in so many words, when she wasy here. Your love is obvious!
Up and Beautiful!
Sharing this lovely tribute again, Mary!
This is a beautiful tribute to your mother, I am so sorry for your loss. I couldn't imagine how painful this must have been for you. Great hub, voted up, more and shared.
Beautiful, Mary. I love the shadow box idea also. Rated this one UP/U/B and sharing
What a lovely hub. My father passed away last year and I always think of the things I wish I had told him.
Mary, this is a beautiful tribute to a wonderful mother. I know I would have loved her if I had known her. And, I know she is proud of the woman you have become.
Very touching. I love the shadowbox of your mother's things. A great idea for a remembrance. Your mother seems like she was a wonderful person and great mom. I know she knew how much you loved and appreciated her.
mary615,
this is a really great tribute that you have here for your Mother.
Im lucky that my mom is still here with me. I've shown her the tribute I did for her
and she loved it. I understand that the best way to tell someone how you really feel is
right away because anything can happen at anytime. it is scary but it is true.
thanks again Voted up and shared
Beautiful Mary; I am seeing my mam tomorrow for Mother's Day and I think Mams should have more than one special day :o) Your mam sounds like she meant the world to you, beautiful hub, shared etc.
Really beautiful poem. Thank you. Moved me. We so under-appreciate our mothers ... until they are no longer with us.
Oh Mary,
What a tender and heartfelt tribute...I feel as though our Mothers were very similar in values and the way they raised us. I know we are similar in the way we love our Mommas to this day.
My Mom loved roses as well...just lovely. So glad you shared this.
Voted UP and Awesome and Beautiful. Hugs, Maria
Mary, this is a beautiful tribute to your Mom. I am sure I would have loved her too if I had a chance to know her. I love a woman with a sharp wit who puts family first. I love that it was your Mom who taught you to love nature too. She must have been an amazing mother and I know she is proud of her daughter. Thank you for sharing her with us.
No matter how old we get, a mother's love, for those fortunate enough to have experienced it, never goes away. I had a wonderful mother, both my parents were, and I learned so much from them. Actually, my entire behavior today, long after they passed away is based on their teachings and will remain that way for as long as I live. Thank you for a great hub giving the opportunity to pay a tribute to mothers all over the world
Awww Mary, this hub is too sweet. A great idea also. A thank you letter to your mom. I bet you are just as amazing as your mother :)
What a sweet hub and I'm sure your mom is smiling down on you :).
This is such a beautiful tribute to your mother, Mary, and I love the memento shadowbox.
I think all of us who have lost our moms would like the chance to talk to them again, especially to thank them for all they did for us and gave us. The fourth anniversary of my own mother's death is next month, and I still miss her very much. I find myself "talking" to her in my mind when I read or see something I think she would like. She will always live in my memory...as does your mother.
Voted Up, Awesome and Beautiful.

Beautiful, Mary. A wonderful tribute to mum. I must say that as I go through your hubs everyday, I find something inspiring, and you're one of the most sincere writers I've read! Thanks for a lovely tribute and you're mum, who's reading this from heaven, will love it too. Shared!!
I like the addition of the shadowbox photo. Nice touch! Glad that I came back again and got to see it.
Beautiful sentiments, and you've reminded me that I'm very lucky to still be able to say these things to my own mother - I can 'tick off' every one of the things your mother did for you, as things mine has done for me too. I'm going to go and phone her right now and take her out for lunch tomorrow. Thank you for the wonderfully written reminder - and I'm sure from the lovely way that you express your feelings in this that your mother knew just how much you loved her.
Beautiful! Who knows your mother have read your hub while watching you over your head, writing this very touching poem. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Mary,
My dear mother was also my best friend and I miss her dearly. It is nice knowing that you had the same relationship with your mother. This is a wonderful poem and tribute to yours. Thanks! Up votes and this needs to be SHARED. Sounds like you are the same kind of mother! :)
Well this will bring a tear to anyones eyes that misses their mother! Beautiful! Thank You!
Mary I can tell, your Mother must have got a great deal of pleasure from seeing you grow up and become someone she could be proud of.
So touching, so beautiful, so brilliant! Your mom heard every word you wrote. When you get to those Pearlie gates she will be there with her and handout, welcoming her baby girl in her arms again. Beautiful Mary voted up!:)
Mary, that was so beautiful and touching, so simple and yet so profound, it brought tears to my eyes. I am so sorry that your mom is not around to read this but I am sure she knew just how you felt about her. I will remember to tell my mom those things and indeed pick her the biggest bouquet of red roses from the store or somewhere where they can be found. Mothers are special and I am glad we can celebrate them all our lives even after they are gone.
Mary, you have done your Mother proud with this beautiful hub. I think it's often not until years later that we truly realize how much our Mothers did for us, and like you said in the poem, they didn't have to! I loved how you showed how she loved you with her actions most of all. So lovely and thanks for writing.
My Mom was my best friend, too, so I can relate so much. Take care!
According to Sri Lankan Culture; Mother's love for children is boundless,It emerges from the bottom of the heart.
Happy Mothers day to you!
Wow. Beautiful tribute for for your mom. That's very sweet of you. Happy Mothers day to you!
Your mom sounds like mine, she always had a song, and sometimes she would drown out my rock song with one of her golden oldies...I would love her to do it again. Beautiful tribute.
This is such a beautiful poem, mary, and a wonderful tribute to your mother. As I was reading your poem I was reminded of my own mother and of how she did many of the same things for me. Thank you for the memories. I hope you have a great Mother's Day, mary.
Happy Mother's Day, Mary615! This is a beautiful tribute to your mother. I am sure she would just love this special message. You are blessed to have had such a wonderful mother and such a caring daughter!
