Tips For Choosing The Perfect Mother’s Day Gift

Updated on March 10, 2014

Show Mom You Care

Moms are so special and they do so much for everyone. So when it comes to choosing a gift to honor her on Mother’s Day, you’ll want to select something that is meaningful, interesting, and appropriate. There are so many choices that you really can’t go wrong. Put your heart into it and see if any of these ideas would be an ideal gift for your special mom.

Pamper Her

Moms love things that will pamper them. After all, they are often the last people who ever get pampered. When they’re busy taking care of everyone else, there’s little time to relax and refresh. So your gift can be all about taking a much needed refreshment break.

Start off with a spa gift certificate. You can’t ever go wrong when you choose this option. She can either choose which services she wants for herself or you can pay for a massage and facial. She can also get her nails done, too. It depends on the spa, but most will allow you to buy a generic gift certificate that she can use on any services she wants.

Gift Basket Indulgences

Your gift can be contained in a lovely basket filled with relaxing treats. Find a basket that mom would like to have around in her house even if it wasn’t filled with spa products. That way she can use it later.

Fill this Mother's Day gift basket with her favorite magazine’s next issue, the gift card, some candles, aromatherapy products such as bath oil or bubbles, lotion, skin cleansers, and sachets. Choose one scent so the basket seems cohesive. More than one scent and they’ll start to compete with each other and it won’t smell delightful at all.

More Accessories

You can put other things in the basket like a cloth towel wrap used for keeping her hair back when she washes her face, a lovely hand towel or two in a plush material, slippers in a soft material, and even a nail file and some nail polish. Want to really treat her? Add in some decorated Mother's Day cookies for her to snack on.

Add little touches and don’t forget the card. The card is often the most important part. Tell mom how much she means to you and everyone else. Go in with siblings and make a huge basket or an even bigger gift certificate amount. It saves everyone from running around town trying to find a gift and mom will love the giant basket of joy.

Mom Bragging Opps

Mother’s Day gifts should be based on mom’s individual tastes. If she’s a gardener, get her spring garden started with some tools and seeds. If she’s more of a jewelry lover, get her a pretty bracelet with the children’s birthstones in it or a tennis bracelet done in real or faux diamonds. The more you match her personality, the more she’s going to love what you pick out. Generic gifts for her just won’t do for this very special holiday for the woman who does so much.

Gift of Completed Chores

Your gift can also include breakfast in bed, the day to do whatever she wants, and extra special favors from the kids like having them clean up their rooms or put away the dishes for her. Vary the tasks by age. But getting them involved will really make mom’s day, especially if she usually gets stuck doing all the dirty work.

I used to always make my mom a spa gift basket every year for mother's day. She loved it and it would usually last her until the next mother's day :) haha

You're right, moms need pampering and tastes should be individual! Thanks for sharing, pinchic, and I share too.

While I love all of these gift ideas, my favorite is a pamper gift - either a certificate for a pedicure or massage or a relaxing gift basket. It would be a dream come true to lock myself in the bathroom and enjoy a nice hot soak without any interruptions!
