Tips For Throwing Memorable Baby Showers

Updated on June 3, 2013

There’s not a lot of events that can possibly be more massive than the pending birth of a baby. And so it just makes perfect sense that this little celebration setting this occasion in motion should be just as meaningful. Thankfully, planning and organising one does not exactly entail slaving away for ridiculously long hours. For genuine celebrations of new beginnings, all you really need is a ton of creative batteries and a dash of personal touch.

Get creative with invitations.

Invitations set the tone for the entire celebration, so don’t go cheap on them. While there really is no need for anything fancy, the Internet is brimming with online stores that cater to such needs. Ready-made cards are practically everywhere, while online invitations look just as pretty as the real thing. Some of these digital invites even come with guest list-tracking services, which could save you a lot of time.

Make it unforgettable.

Just like throwing any other awesome party, a memorable baby shower will have to have family and friends, celebrating over good food and great drinks. While most people would go for themes, one need not stress over it, unless it is a concept that reflects the personality of the mom-to-be. Is she a bit wacky? Does she enjoy reading books? How obsessed is she with Harry Potter? If you find something that has a special connection with her, go for it. It may just kick things up a notch.

Choose personal yet fun activities over games.

It’s not the usual shower games that make a baby shower exciting; it’s the fun activities with personal touches that do. Look around the venue and come up with cute little keepsakes for the mom-to-be. This may involve setting up a table with a brand new baby book where guests can share parenting advices and thoughts, or making a DIY photobooth with your laptop where guests can strike poses with baby-themed props like pacifiers.

Help the process.

Pregnancy can be exhausting, so make sure to help mom-to-be throughout the celebration. Do simple gestures like keeping track of every guest that comes in, getting their contact details for thank you notes/ gifts, and helping unwrap gifts.

Thank the guests.

Don’t forget to write thank-you notes or send little tokens of appreciation. This may come off as a daunting task, but it is important to personally thank guests who have gone out of their way to celebrate with and deliver a gift to you for your baby.

Baby showers can be as elaborate or as low-key as the host wants. Nevertheless, it is an occasion that warrants the love, support, and great company of family and friends. Choose the best timing for it, plan ahead, and get your creative batteries working. While there are no set rules for such a celebration, the key is make it fun and exciting for everyone – especially for the mom-to-be.

Great ideas! I have been to such a wide range of baby showers, and I agree you should pay attention to the personality of the mom when planning.
