Top 10 Gift Ideas for Men

Updated on October 27, 2011

Gift-Giving Made Easy

Gift-giving can be tricky at times when you're purchasing for someone who seems to have all they need. Whether you're searching for a gift for your boyfriend, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, or other male relative or friend, these gift ideas should help you discover places online that you can find classic or unique gifts for men. These gift ideas will be suitable for almost any age, personality type and budget.

1. A Watch

Watches are a classic gift for men, and if the man you're buying for has lost his, or checks the time on his cell phone, a watch can be a classy gift to give.

There are many different types and brands of watches, so this is a great gift to give if you're on a budget. You can find watches at department stores, speciality watch stores, and online.

There is a store online called the Discount Watch Store that sells brand name watches at low prices. You can find watches for as low as $40! A link to their store can be found below.

2. Sports Apparel

Sports lovers will enjoy jackets or sweaters that display the logo and colours of their favourite sports teams. You can find this type of apparel at speciality clothing stores in malls and online.

A store online that sells sports apparel is FansEdge. You can select the team and then choose the type of clothing (t-shirt, sweater, jacket, etc). They sell other things as well, such as coolers and clocks!

Another gift idea is to give him tickets to a game!

FansEdge website can be found below.

3. Unique Electronics Accessories

Some say that modern cell phones can do it all these days, but there are some things that they can't do without the help of some unique accessories.

A website called ThinkGeek specializes in gagets and electronics that you won't typically be able to find anywhere else.

For example, they have an iPhone case that has a bottle opener on the back. They also sell a Grassy Lawn Charging Station that looks like a smaller planter with grass, but it actually holds your electronics while they are charging. The fake grass hides the mess of cables.

ThinkGeek has many more cool accessories and gadgets and the links to the products I mentioned above can be found below.

4. Fragrance Sampler

Choosing a fragrance for men can be difficult sometimes, and thankfully there is a quick and easy solution that will please everyone!

Sephora (a large cosmetics and fragrance store) has put together a set of popular men's fragrances. The set comes with small glass samples of:

  • Bvlgari MAN
  • Dolce & Gabanna Light Blue Pour Homme
  • Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gio
  • Givenchy Play
  • Gucci Guilty Pour Homme
  • Hanae MORI HM
  • Jean Paul Gaultier LE MALE
  • John Varvatos Star U.S.A.
  • Prada Amber Pour Homme
  • Versace Man Eau Fraiche
  • Yves Saint Laurent L'Homme
  • Yves Saint Laurent La Nuit De L'Homme

It also comes with a moisturizer and facial cleanser as a bonus. The best part of all is that the set comes with a voucher that can be redeemed for a full-size bottle of whichever fragrance he likes most!

The set is $50 (which is more or less the price of a full size fragrance).

A link to this set can be found below.

Other stores may offer a similar set, such as Shopper's Drug Mart in Canada, or other drug stores in the U.S.

5. Digital SLR

This may be on the pricey side, but a good Digital SLR Camera can be a great gift for any man of almost any age! The quality of photos is amazing, even if you have no photography experience.

If you're on a budget, but like the idea of a digital camera, there are many point-and-shoot digital cameras that take great quality photos and are must cheaper than a Digital SLR. These can both be purchased from WalMart, Staples, FutureShop, Best Buy, etc.

6. Bath & Body

If you're looking for a smaller and budget-friendly gift, hair and body wash (2-in-1) can be a great gift! Rather than getting him something from the drug store that he probably uses all the time, look for something more high-end to make it special.

You can find great hair and body wash at The Body Shop in many different scents. 2-in-1 is great for men because it is minimal and not at all overwhelming! However, if the man you're buying for likes to use a lot of products, The Body Shop is a great store to find new and exciting things, and you can even make your own gift basket!

7. Books

Reading isn't for everyone, but it's never too late to try to get someone started on reading.

Every single hobby and interest imaginable has a book written about it, so if you're stuck trying to think of a gift, books might be able to save the day! Even if he absolutely hates reading, he probably has another hobby that he is passionate about, and a book on it might be hard to turn down.

If he already has a lot of books, try searching for books that haven't been released and pre-order it for him.

There are many bookstores online, such as Chapters, Barnes and Noble and Amazon!

8. Video Games and Accessories

If he has a game console, chances are he likes playing video games. Find out which console he has and if he's been wanting a certain game. If you're not sure which one to get, or which one he will enjoy, a gift card to a video game store will likely be much appreciated. You can also find accessories for gaming consoles such as headsets, wireless controllers, special keyboards and more!

These can also be found stores such as FutureShop, Best Buy, EB Games and WalMart.

9. A Cookbook

If you liked the book idea from #7, a more specific type of book is a Cookbook. Cookbooks are a classic gift to give students who are moving away for the first time, or for any man who wants to learn more about how to cook.

Cookbooks are a great gift to give almost anyone, in fact, because being creative with your food can help keep things fresh and fun.

You can find cookbooks that specialize in different types of cuisines, from simple to complex, and even written by celebrity chefs.

10. Clothing

Though probably not his favourite gift as a child, clothing can be a great gift to give him in his adulthood. Socks and ties are easiest to give as they don't have to be sized exactly. Sweaters and jackets are a little easier to size, while pants and shirts would require a small bit of research.

Clothing can be a perfect gift to give if you know his size and colour preference.

If all else fails, gift cards to his favourite stores will show that you know what he likes and that you're giving him the option to choose something that he needs and will use.
