Top 10 Christmas Gift Ideas for Students - Christmas Gifts Guide 2013

Updated on November 14, 2013

The college years are new and exciting. They are also overwhelming and stressful! Giving the student in your life the perfect Christmas gift can help make their lives easier and more joyful. But what should you get? Do you get something they really need or something they really want? That depends on who the person is since we are all different, but here are some excellent ideas to get you started!

Terrific Technology

Now more than ever, technology plays an important part in their lives. Text books in class and home are now found on computers. In fact, everything in the class is done on computers (aside from hands on lab work of course!). Consider getting your student a new laptop, Notebook, tablet, etc. These are something they can really use. Computerized date book and alarm clocks are also good choices, as are USB sticks.

Bags for the Books

No matter what age a student is, a book bag/back pack is an absolute must! Even if they already have one, splurge a little and get them something really attractive and edgy. With all of the supplies they need for their classes they likely wear back packs out fast! A laptop case may also come in handy; just make sure that you know what size computer they have so it is sure to fit!

Booking It

Books are synonyms with college students. Maybe they could use a line of credit at the school book store. Perhaps there is a specific book they have been dying to read. Or maybe you should get them a book outlining the history of the school that they are attending. There are so many types of books and subject matter that there is no limit to what you can find!

University Memorabilia

Students are usually pretty proud of the school that they attend. For this reason you may want to consider getting them something dealing with their school. Think about sweatshirts, jackets, mugs, etc. These types of items can be personalized as well!

Dorm Décor

Students, especially freshman, want to make their dorm room their own; give it some of their own personality to make it feel more like home. You can help them buy giving bedding sets, wall décor, lamps, decks, and anything else you think that they would enjoy seeing in their new home.

Wallet/Purse Surprise

This type of gift will be both useful and fun! Begin by getting them a wallet or purse. Once they open it up they will think that it is all they are getting – until that is, they open it up! Add movie tickets, some money, a gas card, or anything else you can think of. This is very creative and something that they will not soon forget!

A Family Visit

There’s no place like home for the holidays! Since a student’s budget may be pretty tight, get them a plane or train ticket to spend the holidays with their family. This is a heartfelt gift that will make you and them very happy indeed!

Personalized Gifts

Personalizing gifts is always a special way to say I love you. The great thing about this idea is that it can be done with most any item you chose for their gift. Personalize clothing, luggage, mugs, laptop bags, jewelry, etc. You can even have a picture made with their name to hang over the bed in their dorm room!

Gift Card Gala

You can never go wrong with gift cards, especially when it comes to the hectic lives of students. You can get them something fun like a department store card or something practical like a fast food card for those late nights studying!

Better Grades

If you know a student who is having a great deal of trouble in one or more of their classes, how about a tutor for Christmas? While this may not be the fun gift they were looking forward to it may just be the one that saves their academic standing!

This is a list just to get you started and your creative juices flowing. There are many things that a student can use. If you don’t mind them not being surprised, just ask them what they need and there is no way you can go wrong!
