Gift Ideas For Dad!

Updated on November 16, 2012

So another year has passed along with all the gift giving holidays, huh? It feels like there is a celebration every month! And that can only mean one thing... What present haven't I given yet? Furthermore, it's for dad! Dad is the guy who bought you anything and everything you wanted growing up. Not to mention, he raised you, took care of you, and went to all of your recitals, games, and musicals growing up. He really and truly deserves the best. But, what does this mean? What can you possibly get him that he doesn't already have? Well, honestly, as long as you put your heart into the gift idea, you really can't go wrong... no matter how simple it is! If your still having trouble brainstorming, here are my Top 5 Gift Ideas for Dad this year!

#5. Paint him a Mug!

This is the perfect idea for a father who loves to drink coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or any hot beverage in the morning! There are so many different mugs to choose from which you can design to make it HIS. It's also a fun idea if you have young kids. They can help you to decorate a cup for grandpa ... making it that much more special. Some places give you dozens of choices when it comes to making a selection. If your father is retired and drinks most of his coffee at home, there are multiple sizes and styles. If your father is always on the go, and prefers to have his caffeine with him, they also have travel mugs! This typically can all be done for less than $25!

#4. Make him a Collage!

Putting together a collage can be done in a variety of ways. One way to do it, is to go through your old photos of you, your siblings, your mom, and your dad and sort through as many as you think you will need for the collage (If you have kids you can also include pictures of them with grandpa in the collage too!). When you have made your selections, cut them up in funky shapes and angles. Get some large colorful construction paper and paste all the photos overlapping, covering most of the background paper. To jazz it up a bit, you can add little comments throughout the collage about each of the different pictures! Another type of collage that can be made is through any of your local 1-hour photo shops. Last year, I brought my cameras memory card to our 1-hour photo shop and I selected a bunch of photos of my husband, our daughter, and me. Then I arranged the pictures how I wanted them to appear on the collage using their picture kiosk. A few minutes later the employee printed it out for me and I placed it into a stylish frame! Depending on the frame you choose, this can be done for around $20!

#3. Cook him his favorite Breakfast!

Food is always a winner when it comes to men. Wake up early (I know your tired, but he deserves it!!!), and start cooking! Whether it's pancakes, eggs and sausage, or oatmeal, as long as it's his favorite, he will love it! It's as simple as that sounds, it's true! Set it up on the kitchen table and make it look professional! Maybe even fresh flowers in a vase on the table. He will appreciate the special touch!

#2. Surprise Party!

Now, when I say surprise party, it doesn't necessarily need to be over the top, frozen swans on the buffet table, type of party. What I mean is, make it a surprise. I'm sure most siblings gather at Dad's house on Sunday (Fathers Day) for dinner. What you can do to make it a surprise is maybe you gather on Saturday, decorate his home, and wait for him to get back. When decorating the house, there's no need to spend too much on banners and balloons. You can make your own banners, draw on it and have fun with your siblings (or kids if they want to help) and personalize the banner with what you think Dad will like. If you want to put up balloons, you can always grab a bag from the dollar store and blow them up at home! Although Dad is expecting to see everyone that weekend anyways, the fact that you put so much thought into making it all about him, will just make it that much more heart felt!

#1. Make it "Dads Day!"

In making it Dads day, you can ask Mom for some help. No one knows how to make Dad happy like your mother. It could mean anything from renting a bunch of old cowboy movies and sitting on the couch with snacks all day watching the T.V. with him, or giving him the entire day to relax on his own. Just make the whole day, from "Good morning" until "Good night" all about Daddy! Mom will be able to steer you in the right direction! If his perfect day is to be alone all day, just lounging, something extra special you can do is make him his favorite lunch and put it in the refrigerator for him to find later (with a little note attached letting him know it's just for him!).

Your father is your hero all throughout your childhood, and so much more when you're an adult. Treat him like it all year long, but make this fathers day a day to remember. Put a smile on his face and warm his heart with a special gift this year!
