Gift Baskets

Gift basket designs are limitless and only restricted by ones imagination as you can see by all the pictures across the internet. We enjoy the challenge of creating gifts outside the box and that are unique. Some of our creations included coming up with a custom created gifts for Atlas Behavioral Health to give out during the Holidays. We came up with taking a world globe, like the ones used in schools and split them, Filling the bottom (north of the Equator with goodies and Top half was placed back on at an angle. Creating and Atlas themed gift that went with their Logo and was recognizable as to who it came from. So be creative and think outside the box when you are designing and creating a gift for someone. The thought and effort will go along way.

Towel Cake

Towel cake gift baskets make wonderful and useful gifts for newly weds and great housewarming gifts as well.

So I decided to do a post on creating a Towel Cake. You can find many beautiful inspirations for decorating a towel cake on the internet or just use your own inspiration. You can't go wrong.

Items needed:

4 Bath Towels
4 Hand Towels
4 Washcloths
1 1/8 x 36" dowel
Ribbon of choice
Decorations of choice
Styrofoam ball cut in half

When choosing your towels you can mix and match with coordinating colors between the different sizes and use print or solids. When selecting towels with boarders remember to fold the towels to show the off the pattern.

Folding the towels
Folding the towels

All the Towels and wash cloths will be folded in the same manner. Starting with the bath towels, lay the towels lengthwise and fold in thirds as shown in the picture to the right. Set aside the folded towels as they are folded. Make sure all the towels are folded the same way and the open side is closest to you, Keeping in mind that if the towels you chose have a border or trim they are folded to highlight this accent.

rolling the towels

Once you have completed folding the towels, lay a towel out and begin rolling it up, keep it even as you roll it and keep it pulled tight to minimize creases and wrinkles. Make sure to roll the first one tightly. The first towel should be rolled tightly to give the base good support. Lay the next towel so the it overlaps the end of the current towel and continue rolling until all the towels have been rolled into one unit, Secure this towel roll by pinning it or wrapping it with curling ribbon to prevent it from unrolling on you. Repeat this procedure with the hand towels and wash cloths.

Stacking Towels
Stacking Towels

Once all the towels and wash cloths have been rolled and secured now you will need to stack them to create the towel cake gift basket. When stacking you can center the different sizes one on top of another or you can align them in the back of the cake to give you more room on the front part of the cake to place products. Once you have the towel cake gift basket aligned the way you want, slip the dowel through all three tiers to support them and hold them together.

Clip off the top of the dowel so that it is about 2 inches above the last tier of the cake. Push the half of the Styrofoam ball down over the dowel to secure it in place, making sure that it is centered on the dowel. Only use the Styrofoam ball if you want to secure artificial flowers to the top of the towel cake. If you do not plan to use artificial flowers on top, then clip the dowel at top tier level so it is not seen.

Add ribbon
Add ribbon

Once everything is stacked and straightened, add ribbon and decorations. Wrap ribbon around each roll and secure tightly to add additional support to each roll. Add a bow to each layer of the towel cake. You can add one or two rows of ribbon to each layer as you prefer. This is where your creativity will come into play. You can wrap the ribbon in a spiral from top to bottom, you can cover each tier in lace, be creative don't hold back.

Decorations such as small flowers can be grouped together in little bouquets on each tier, placed in a ring around each layer to hide hide where each tier meets much the same as a baker would do with piping on a cake. You can create a cascade of flowers down one side or spiraling around the cake down each tier starting at a beautiful arrangement on the top. Let your imagination run free and be creative it is easier than decorating a cake, because if you don't like the look just take the flowers off and start over.

When it comes to the decoration you can go heavy or light depending on your taste and if you are going to add products to the gift basket, place the products where you would like them, first then add the decorations around the products. Adding more decorations helps take up space if you do not plan on adding a lot of products by filling in empty spaces making the gift look fuller.

I hope that you will give a Towel Cake Gift Basket a try to post your creation for others to see what an excellent job you did and to inspire others. Go have fun with it you can't go wrong.

Thank you for reading.
