Trick To Spending Fourty To Fifty Percent Less On Christmas

Updated on October 13, 2011

Many different cards available

These days, many of the larger retail stores have giftcards.

Saving Up To Half On Christmas Or Any Time

Start now because this may not be as good the closer you get to Christmas.

I did this last year and again have scored this year. 3 words. Giftcards on Craigslist.

I just this weekend got a $500 Walmart giftcard on Craig's list for $300.This is same as cash when it comes to buying gifts. You can literally go and turn this $500 into 10 $50 Walmart gift cards and your shopping is done.

I had to call a few people, but essentially, there are quite a few listings of people selling giftcards on Craigslist. Even if you pay seventy cents on the dollar, you are covered. Now, I will tell you, I don't shop much at Walmart. But my family is in the Midwest and they certainly all do.

Home Depot, Starbucks, you name it is for sale. Just go and look.

Now, when you do this, you obviously want to protect yourself so when you meet the people, I recommend you meet them near the store you will be getting the giftcard from. I usually just meet the people at Starbucks and call to make sure the card is good, but if you want to take it to the next level, then meet them say, in the Walmart pizza area or Target Starbucks.

If you are smart, you save a bundle of cash. Happy Holidays everyone. I was ecstatic that it worked out for me and figured I would share it with my Hubpage friends here.

It doesn't work as well on Ebay but you can still save 10 percent there. Generally a $100 giftcard on ebay sells for about $90 to $93 dollars with free shipping. If it is a more regional venue, you will probably get a better deal. Ie. if you're looking at a store that is only in a few states, you can probably get closer to 15 or 20 percent savings on ebay.

Let me know if this works for ya

I never thought of buying gift cards on Craig's List! Great idea, especially if you can get them discounted as much as you say. I'm going to check this out today! Thanks for the info. Voted up and useful.

Just as an update, I just moved last weekend. I bought 2 $100 gift cards for Bed, Bath & beyond for $120 bucks on Craigslist. Bought everything I needed for my new place!

Ya, you should. You can find even better deals in the off season because not as many people are buying them so the prices go down. For whatever reason, people who don't have a need for anything at Walmart let them go cheaply.

By the way, this works for birthdays too. I just got a $100 Best Buy card today for $80 bucks and the seller met me at Best Buy.
