The True Meaning of Christmas in Lights and Music

Updated on December 20, 2012

Christmas Decorations in Upscale Communities Have Become a December Commercial Bonanza for Landscapers and Others

In upscale suburbs of Detroit such as Grosse Pointe and Birmingham-Bloomfield Hills, some homeowners are competing to see who has the most elaborate and beautiful Christmas decorations in their yards and on their houses. Some are paying thousands to professionals to do their decorating for them. Some still do their own more modest decorating. When I see the most elaborate and expensive decorations I wonder whether they reflect the true spirit of Christmas. What do you think? The video below is the most spectacular example of the current Christmas arms race.

Another trend toward the commercialization of Christmas evident in recent years is increasingly elaborate and expensive Christmas decorations in upscale malls like the Somerset Collection in Troy, Michigan. Hub entitled "True Meaning of Christmas" and "Christmas in Richistan" with photos of Somerset's Christmas decorations are also linked below.

My wife has this posted on one of her blogs, and the tune is completely addictive. I would hate to be this guy's neighbor.

A most interesting interpretation! Love the tight connection between music rhythms and visuals! Refreshing!
