Holidays and Celebrations in January - Some Fun, Some Unusual and Some Strange

Updated on January 16, 2015

Most months come with their own built in holidays giving us a reason to celebrate, party and have fun. But as I was looking through calendars, I found there were some holidays that I had never heard of, and some that I didn't want to hear about.

At times, it was hard to pick just one for each day, but I persevered and chose one to share with you. With each day, I have also provided links for you to find out more about the holiday or to enjoy the holiday more fully. I hope you take the time to enjoy January just a little bit more after you have picked out several, or even all, of these holidays to enjoy. Happy Holidays all year through!

Monthly Observances

Out of the many monthly observances that January enjoys, here are a few for you to enjoy more fully.

Are you ready to celebrate through the month of January? You can celebrate by taking a bubble bath, even with your rubber ducky. You can cuddle up in front of the fireplace and eat something covered with chocolate. You can eat a pie, a brownie and some popcorn. How about having fun at work, loving your spouse, and hugging someone? Sound like fun? Then read on!

2 - Happy Mew Year Day for Cats - This is a day set aside to celebrate New Year’s with your four-legged friends, the Kitty Cat. (I actually have a cat named, K.C., which is short for kitty cat)

3Chocolate Covered Cherry Day - Anything is better with chocolate on top of it. Enjoy something today that is covered with chocolate! Try some Chocolate Covered Cherry Cookies or another fun recipe!

4Trivia Day - Find a fun bit of trivia and share it today. Organize or plan a trivia game party!

5Bird Day – Go for a walk with your binoculars and enjoy your feathered friends.

I am all for the oatmeal and hot tea days of January! Love your share on this and the days to keep in mind as they pass. I will remember to celebrate Love Yourself Day as well. Sharing.

I never realised January was such a busy month - something different everyday. Or that it was 'Love Yourself' month.

Gail - Actually many of the days have several celebrations. I chose the one for each day that I thought would be the most fun. Some days actually had some risque celebrations! I avoided those. You have picked some very good days to celebrate. I think I celebrate hubbing day almost every day.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing!

Great hub! Who knew there were so many holidays and January Monthly observences? Not I! Leave it to you to make sure I'm informed.

I plan to celebrate Love Yourself Day, Cuddle Up Day and National Hugging Day (oops, I almost typed hubbing day).

      Voted up across the board.

Millionaire Tips - I started following Bendo a few days ago and noticed that he did that. Some of our holidays are the same, but I believe that there are quite a few differences. Thanks for sharing the info. And thanks for stopping by!

I just loved the Inane Phone Message thingy, hsb ... some of them would make a change from my usual growl 'Just leave a goddam message!'.

(That is a joke ... probably in bad taste?)

Hi Sueswan - I would have never guessed there were so many holidays or celebrations in January. But I hope I'm as lucky with the other months as I plan to do all of them.

Thanks for stopping by and let's celebrate January!

      Hi homesteadbound

Who knew there was so much to celebrate in January.

Like you, I don't make New Year's resolutions and being a tea lover I think every month should be National Hot Tea Month. :-)

I have bookmarked this one. Voted up and awesome.

Homesteadbound, It's always fun when calendar dates can be filled in with fun things, and you offer quite a list of amusing, entertaining, intriguing events. In fact, I'm looking forward to exciting celebrations of blonde brownies, oatmeal and popcorn as well as with balloons, pets, puzzles and rocks. Now if only I could go to Indonesia to celebrate komodo dragon day there...

      Thank you for sharing,

      Derdriu
