100 Cute Valentine's Day Words

Updated on January 20, 2016

The feeling of “love is in the air” is apparent on Valentine’s Day! Love is seemingly everywhere we turn, along with the many things we associate with the Valentine’s Day holiday. Although we should always be showing our loved ones just how much they are loved, Valentine’s Day is a great occasion reserved solely for the purpose expressing our ooey-gooey love feelings.

Of course, with any holiday comes a perfect excuse to be festive and party. In schools, common things to do are making Valentine’s Day “mailboxes,” exchanging those cute, little cards, and getting loaded on sugar by way of candy, cookies, and other baked treats. Outside of schools, lovers like to go on dates, give flowers, teddy bears, and boxes of chocolates (can’t forget the chocolates)!

Valentine's Word Games

Another way to really get into it is to put together some word games. Whether you’re a school teacher or just someone looking for something to do that’s related to the holiday, there’s plenty of games you can make and play!

  • Memory: Using cardstock, cut out playing card-sized pieces and write a word on each card with an associated picture (optional), making sure that each word is on two different cards. Then you play the classic game of memory!

  • Pictionary: Drawing is fun, especially when it is in school replacing traditional assignments! Once again, make cards (no doubles needed) with Valentine’s Day words on them. Teams are split up, a timer is set and the artist has 60 seconds to draw a picture while everyone else on the team tries to guess what it is!

  • Crossword puzzles: With so many words to choose from, you can make the puzzle as small or as large as necessary for whatever audience you’re entertaining.

  • Word searches: Word searches are another one of those jobs where you can tweak it to suit any age group or audience!

  • Valentine’s Day word jumble: Take a bunch of Valentine’s Day words and scramble them up to be unscrambled. Make a bonus word by taking a letter or two out of each word by putting a circle around that space, and have a riddle to go along with the bonus word.

  • HEART: If you’re familiar with BINGO, this is the same concept. You take a standard BINGO grid, and rather than using BINGO numbers, you have a word bank that everyone can use to fill in words related to Valentine’s day!

  • Crafts: Red, pink, and lacey everything on Valentine’s Day. Crafts are fun for all ages, so think of a few words and use them in your crafting!

All of these ideas tend to be fun, especially when there is incentive to win! Award a piece of candy such as NECCO Sweethearts or heart lollipops to children who participated and won.

Valentine’s Day may be a day of love, but what about for those who don’t have someone to share their affection with? Getting into the spirit sure is a good idea, and with playing Valentine’s Day games, you can do just that! Who knows, you might just catch the love bug and confess your undying love to your secret crush, and what if, just what if they feel the same way?

Get into the holiday spirit and enjoy yourself. Spread the love all over!
