Vintage Halloween Greeting Cards

Updated on September 11, 2011

I don't think I have ever received a Halloween greeting card, it seems rather an odd holiday for a card but , in fact, Halloween has been a popular subject for greeting cards for well over a hundred years.

Ellen Clapsaddle who is noted for her adorable children on Christmas greeting cards , also made quite a few Halloween ones, I have put some below.

All these images are in the public domain, so if you want to use them for a craft project or to put them on your website, just right click to save.

The first set of photos needs an explanation. There is an old superstition; if a girl looks into a mirror at midnight on Halloween, she will see her one true love. The belief was wide spread enough to justify several Halloween cards dedicated to it. I suppose it is like the custom of sleeping with a piece of wedding cake under your pillow.
