What Are You Going To Be For Halloween?-Pick Your Costume now!
And A Little Mood Music!
Trying to Decide
Have you had the all too familiar conversation with a child yet... I NEED to get my Halloween costume ready!!! It's getting SO close to Halloween!!! It seems the closer to Halloween it gets the more and more frustrated kids get with you. You can't seem to tell them enough that there is still two whole months to prepare. Have they already decided what they want to be? Will it be a classic Spiderman, or Superman, or will you be going the new movie route with something previously released in theaters? How about the old standby of a vampire or witch? There are endless possibilities for children as well as teens and adults. Do you have any big plans for parties this year and just can't decide what you want to do yet? The closer it gets the more eager prodding from the little ones there will be, it's an unavoidable fact.
Some Popular Choices
This year a lot of little girls and little boys may be going the route of Alice in Wonderland. A fan favorite through the years; with the release of the new movie it is sure to be a hit among the teens especially. Something for the younger kids; there will probably be many little Yo Gabba Gabba members meeting on the streets while trick or treating. Another big named star will have many little clones of her Hannah Montana self running around, as she has such a large fan base of little girls in love with her golden locks and rockin' style.
A big thing this year may actually have you wondering if you have flown to another planet while your back was turned as I'm sure there will tons of blue Avatar characters running around, young and old. Regardless of age, Halloween may be a star studded event this year!
Making Your choices
Finding the right costume can be difficult if you aren't sure what you want to be. One of your best bets in deciding would be to decide what it is you will be doing on Halloween. Trick or treating with your kids is always fun and dressing up in matching costumes can be fun for some of the younger kids. Some families like to dress up as a cohesive group: e.i. The Munsters. Finding a fun costume while taking your children out can really make the experience more magical for them. Play a game with your children, have them stay in character throughout the entire time their costume is on, if you are dressed up, do the same. It will make the night so much more fun!
Going Out On The Town
If you are going out to an adult costume contest the ladies out there who are big Lady Gaga fans might enjoy picking from one of her over the top outfits (sans meat dress please!). You are sure to be the life of the party if one of her songs comes on at a club and you are the main attraction!
Going the Homemade Route
When everything else isn't quite as appealing or you have something else in mind, going homemade is for you. If you can't sew you can custom order your costume from someone. If sewing and being creative is your thing though, making it yourself is always the most rewarding. Having a child decide to make their own costume is a fun option but also a test on your creative abilities. Last year I custom made about 15-20 costumes, some for custom orders and some for retail. If you aren't capable of using a sewing machine though, it can be tough. Finding new ways to piece together that perfect costume for your little one can be trying but it is always a new experience. This year my time is freed up as there is no costumes to really be had. I'm always waiting for a new challenge but my main focus this year is a modified Sonic the Hedgehog Tails costume. Helping your little ones with the more difficult tasks that require cutting, sewing, gluing or painting is a must, but allowing them creative freedom is awesome. You will truly be surprised with what they come out with sometimes.
Trunk or Treat
If you aren't going to be taking your little ones out on the street or don't have access to major trick or treating neighborhoods in your area your best bet will be Trunk or Treats! Usually run by churches or neighborhood programs. They usually offer tons of games, costume contests, prizes, and a special designated area and time for safe trick or treating. All ages are usually welcome and it can be a fun and exciting experience for your kids. Having been to several already myself, they are a great way to safely spend your Halloween with people in your community.
Don't Forget The Decorations
Don't forget to stock up on all your favorite decorations this year as well if the party is at your house! A great source for Halloween decorations is Spirit Halloween. I had the pleasure of visiting one of these stores earlier today and they had fantastic decorations and costumes galore. If you have a need for anything and prefer to have things on hand they have tons of stores nationwide.
Another great place that's on site or online to shop is Halloween Express. Your options are endless this Halloween. Just remember be safe!
