What To Get Jesus for His Birthday!

Updated on December 20, 2012
the Miraculous day
the Miraculous day | Source

It has been asked; if it's Jesus' birthday then why is everyone else receiving the gifts?

Part habit , part tradition, part commercialism, and certainly pure selfish want. After all, who doesn't like getting gifts? Even those that don't believe or care for Jesus or His teachings love the receipt of gifts. Many of the more cheerful sort will speak of the goodwill and love spread about this time of year. The peace-on-earth tidings are passed on to even those you don't like or barely tolerate the rest of the year. Many will pass out gifts and goodies to irritating neighbors, co-workers, and estranged family members. Often is told the tale of the WW2 miracle in which allied and German forces ceased fire for twenty-four hours to celebrate Christmas. After all; its' not very Christian to kill a man on Christmas day!

Can we at some point concentrate our efforts on the guest of honor at this world-wide party, as they did? I guess the question would then be; not What Would Jesus Do? Rather, WWJ Want?

What WOULD Jesus Want???

The Prince of Peace, the Lamb of God, Saviour of the Lost, and Friend to the friendless.

Knowing that He expounded the virtues of peace, love, humility, and justice. (Matthew 5:1-3)

Knowing that He promised comfort to the comfortless, and that He would return. (John 14:3)

It is apparent then, that Jesus would want for people to express and honour the virtues He expressed.(John 13:34-35)

Christmas is certainly miraculous in that during this time of year the light of love seems to shine through and upon everyone. That I am sure is what Jesus would want for His birthday; for humans to be kinder to each other. We certainly will for one day, and then immediately after after that by January 1st, its back to normal. The focus by New Year's Day is all about self again, as we resolve to lose weight, exercise more, stop smoking, and acquire more of this or that. I just wish that the spirit of Christmas would reign not only in these final days of the year but into, and all the coming year long!!!

Correct! Great work again from a great writer. Thanks for this one and thanks for stoping by at mine. What could be more rewarding than to focus more on Jesus. When we worry less about ourselves and make Him the centre of our focus, our business become His business and we continue to flourish like the tree planted by the riverside; always evergreen. Happy New Year!

Thank you so much for your comments Laura... and I couldn't agree with you more. I know that I really need to improve my relationship with Him, and simply give Him more of my heart and time in thoughtful devotion.

      God bless you

Thank you Deborah for your comments , as always it is good to hear from you. Yes I do feel that the commercialism of the season and the "real" meaning gets lost. I am going to spend that day visiting some shut-ins... just wanna be out of myself and my worries for a time.

I pray that the season is a wonderful one for you and yours my friend.

I enjoyed this hub. What would I give Jesus? I like the concept of kindness to all. What would also be nice is for everyone to spend as much time with Jesus as they do an average day in front of their televisions. Have a blessed holiday and New Year Laurinzo and keep the hubs coming I really enjoy your work.

You know I have wondered sometimes what I would give Jesus for Christmas. And above all things I think I learnt that for Christmas Jesus would want to know that he is loved, as much as he loves us. So I use Christmas to express love and gratitude for Jesus and thank him for all the things he does for people every day of the year.

I must agree with all comments.....the best thing we, each and every one of us could possibly give "GOD," "JESUS" on these holy days, is our never ending devotion, love and honorable intentions to what "HE" ... "THEY" stand for.

A thought-provoking question in your introduction. An awesome hub with a lot of truth. I like how you made reference to scripture passages. You're so right! Christmas is too commercialized. You should see how packed the Apple Store is these days and how much money people are spending on the new Iphone5 along with I-pad. So again, this is a beautiful message here. Let us be kind to one another. I know I will be attending midnight mass on Christmas Eve.

I am so glad CloudExplorer lead me to this beautiful hub. It is so refreshing to see a man come out and speak about Jesus and love and how badly we need it all year, not just at Christmas. You made some beautiful points Laurinzo. God Bless.

      Voted up and beautiful.

ummm hmmm i to wonder how come everybody is so gift greedy etc for christmas time. How come they drink up a storm and get drunk , party like crazy etc and then says it's Christ birthday. When truly they get all the gain ands sometimes its the only time some people actually know Jesus december 25th . We ought to celebrate HIM everyday not just once a year go all crazy on Him.

      Have a bless day

Shalom and peace be unto you

I agree that commercialism has taken over what Christmas is supposed to be about and that the world is selfish and all about themselves. The Christmas season is certainly a conundrum because it supposed to be about 'peace on earth' and 'good will to all men' type of sentiments. I often ask myself if it will be get better or if it will get worse.

Hey bro, I liked this hub and turned my original response to you into a hub about a hub so that folks can discover yours (Plus it was too long). I commend you on doing such an awesome job with this write up.

Maybe proof read it for minor word check, but other then that you packed a powerfully compelling message into it, and by making it short and sweet too.

I celebrate the holiday as a bystander and not as a Christian or as a Catholic, I simply enjoy the god spirits and family time. If we give each other presents they all are things we all are in dire need for, which you'll see what I mean in that hub I wrote for ya.

Thanks for having the courage to write this, and bravo on being so honest and for looking to have truth in your life, rather then falseness.

Thumbs up and getting shared, no doubt!

      Happy Holidays bro!

I do agree with you. Gifts are nice but they are just that, gifts. The real meaning of Christmas is lost in gift-giving if we fail to remember the real reason for the season..Cheers
