What Will I Wear This Halloween? - a Poem
Halloween Contest Announcement
HubPages has just announced it is running a competition for the coming Halloween. The HubPages Weekly email announcement is as follows:
"What better way is there to celebrate the month of spooks and pumpkin spice lattes than with a Halloween contest? This year’s theme is Halloween Costumes. This theme can be interpreted rather loosely—whether it’s a poem or a how-to, as long as your article has to do with costumes, (and complies with the rules), you are eligible to submit it. The rules are simple:
- Your article must be under three years old.
- You must submit said article’s URL to email@example.com. (Articles that are copy/pasted will not be accepted.)
- The deadline is midnight on Monday, October 21st. Any submissions sent after the deadline will not be considered."
I love entering these competitions, especially if poetry is included. Unfortunately, for a long time, it wasn't, but things are looking up. I have written a few Halloween pomes in the past. At first, I checked the date these were published with the thought of entering one of them, however, they are all more than three years old so didn't meet the criteria.
Therefore, I decided to write this poem and enter it in the competition. the competition. I look forward to reading the other contributions.
What Will I Wear This Halloween?
What will I wear this Halloween?
What costume will I choose?
'The Scariest Costume' contest's on
And I don't want to lose.
Will I be a werewolf,
Or maybe Frankenstein?
Last year I was Dracula,
But, zombies are on the rise.
There's always Dr. Jekyl
And his alter-ego Hyde,
An alien from the planet Zogg,
Or a bigfoot known as Clyde.
My sister, she will be a witch.
Each year's the same old tune,
Just wears a black hat, cape, and mask,
And rides an old straw broom.
But, I'll be more original,
Be different than the rest.
I need a special costume
So it is crowned "The Best!"
I've searched through lots of catalogues,
Been to the costume store,
But haven't found a single thing
I haven't seen before.
Then, suddenly, I had a thought!
The idea makes me shake.
What chills me to the very bones,
Like when a vampire sees a stake?
Now, I know the perfect costume.
That will horrify and thrill.
The scariest costume ever worn -
I'll be a 'Dentist with his Drill!'
