What can be the Best Father's Day Gifts?

Updated on October 28, 2014

It is a wise father that knows his own child.

— William Shakespeare

Father’s Day is on 16th June this year and though it is not as famous as Mother’s Day, lots of people would like to do something to show their gratitude towards the man who supported them for most of their life. While there are numerous items you can give to your father, taking him to a brunch with the entire family is an old, yet fun idea! Well, you can give a lot of innovative items to your beloved father, but giving him some of your time is an unmatched gift. And when you go out with him for a lunch, brunch or dinner, you will be surprised to see his joy. But something is still holding you back, right? And it is the prices! But don’t worry. You don’t have to give your arm and leg for a Father’s Day feast, as lots of restaurants have great offers for the celebration. In addition to giving a gift to your father, if you take him for such a feast with family, it will be a great gift for him. Just look around and you will find many. You will find restaurants which have offers of $50 per brunch and you will even find some with $25 per brunch, just to let people celebrate the great occasion.

Prix-Fixe, A La Carte & All-You-Can-Eat!

Though not all, most of the brunches are served as buffets and there are three types in this.

First is prix-fixe. This means that there is a fixed price for a certain menu. This is commonly used for multiple course meals, i.e. three-course or four-course meals. E.g. a typical three course meal contains an appetizer, an entrée or main dish and a dessert.

Second is a la carte. This is a French phrase meaning prices as per the menu. This is a normal process when you go to a restaurant, that you see the menu in which prices are quoted against the dishes and then you order dishes and are charged what you see in the menu, right? This is called a la carte. But this does not happen every time when you go for a brunch buffet and here the third type comes in.

Third is all-you-can-eat. This means that regardless of which dish you eat and how much, you are charged a designated price for that particular buffet.

Things to Remember

You and your family may be excited to dine out in a classy restaurant in a mesmeric atmosphere, with those melodies, shining crockery and exotic décor, but you must not forget some things.

  • Do not forget to make reservations.

  • Inquire if the prices for the food include that of beverages and also taxes and tips.

  • Inquire beforehand if the brunch is buffet and whether it is prix-fixe, a la carte & all-you-can-eat, and choose according to your (or rather your father’s) liking.

  • Inquire if the restaurant has special prices for seniors and children.

  • Make sure whether music and entertainment will be presented at the restaurant, if you are dreaming for that.

  • Inquire if the restaurant has any dress code.

  • Generally restaurants offer free parking and valet service. But be ready to tip the valet.

  • You and your group may encounter a big crowd at the restaurant because Father’s Day is a busy day. You may have to adjust a bit. If not, prefer some other relaxing day for the celebration.

Spending time with your father and family will be one of the best Father’s Day gifts 2013. Don’t forget to give it to him in addition to giving him some beautiful and expensive gift item.

Happy Father's Day

Love the idea of taking my dad to an all you can eat buffet. We usually take my mom because my dad does not ask for much sometimes. Great hub.
