When Irish Eyes Are Smiling
Celebration Of St.Patricks's Day
St.Patrick's day!! A time for magic where the old speak of the leprechauns of Ireland, someone is always looking for a four leaf clover, and many wonder if the gentleman wearing kilts are wearing underwear! Curiosity is raised and children frolic and dance a jig or two , while the parents celebrate a favorite past time and holiday. Aw yes, many Americans become Irish on this celebrated holiday and they don their "orange and green" hoping for a moment that they could be just like the Irish. Happy, joyful, and full of song. Over in the corner you will find someone by the name of John who declares he is Irish and many irishman know a true irishman when they see one, but regardless John will begin to belt " Green Alligators and long neck geese" and Michael will honorably join in on the spirit of the holiday.
For my father "May He Rest In Peace" , it was a time for Corn Beef and Cabbage, Stories , Songs and the Wearin O" the Green. He would wake up and start early , calling each and every one of us and wishing us "Happy St.Pat's Day! Inviting us over for dinner to celebrate his heritage. I realize that my father was only my step-father as my natural father as written in another article had past when we were young, but this man made all of us believe for a magical moment that we too, were Irish. He taught us the Irish Jig , and what the meaning of family was all about. We would roll with laughter as he spoke of the Leprechaun that he claims he met, and until this day I honestly do not know if he did or he didn't but he certainly looked serious when he said it. So for me "St. Patrick's Day" is now a part of our family tradtion so as we prepare for "St Patricks Day" and "Mrs. Murphy's Chowder" I will share with you , one of my father's all time favorite songs as a tribute to him and his memory. It certainly does make my heart sing.
" When Irish Eyes Are Smiling"
When Irish eyes are smiling, sure its like a morn in spring, In the Lilt of Irish Laughter you can hear the angels sing, When Irish hearts are happy all the world seems bright and gay, And when Irish Eyes are smiling, sure they steal your heart away.
On Saint Pat's Day , go ahead celebrate as I too am Irish in my own special way and as my step-father Mr.Nolan would put it, we are all Irish on St.Patrick's Day!!!
Please take a moment to listen to the song, as Dennis Morgan was a favorite of his and it shall certainly bring out the Irish in you.
