When is the best time to enjoy life?

Updated on May 26, 2011

When is the best time to enjoy life?

People have various views on the time life should, most, be enjoyed. Some people think it is better to enjoy life as a youth while others think it is better to enjoy life in old age. The word “enjoyment” is relative so that maybe the reason people have diverse views. What one sees as an enjoyment may not be an enjoyment to another. We know that life is not a bed of roses. Life is not easy and kind to most people consequently people struggle daily for their survival. Therefore what enjoyment means as used in this context is the period in life when we expect a life of less struggle and burdens. That is the time in our lives when we relax more to enjoy than to hustle and struggle for our survival.

Most people will agree that the best time to enjoy life as used in this context is at older age. However, we cannot ignore the enjoyments and activities of our youthful years because it has a lot to do with our old age. It is said that life begins at forty but, to some people, life do not really start at forty for various reasons. The young are so energetic and they love fun and enjoyment that at times it becomes difficult to plan for the future. Well some people do not even think of the future as they, only, live for each day.

Some of our activities as youths can affect our life in future. For instance some of the foods we eat can lead to future health problems which will deny us the enjoyment of old age as we may have to battle with health issues. Some people use their youth to work harder and plant for the future. The plan includes getting married and training your children so that they can take over from where you stop when you can no longer continue. That is how most family business survives for a long time. It is also the children that will take care of their parent by making sure that they are happy and enjoy the fruit of the labor in their old age.

The strength of a man weakens as a man grows older so a time may come when a man will have to live by his past efforts and glory. That is why our present is so closely linked to our future.

The point is that it is good to have fun and enjoy life no matter the stage in our life, if we are in the position to do so. However, it is more important for us to also know that our actions, activities, habits, and the kind of fun we have today may have something to do with our future. Therefore even as we enjoy life in our youth, those that have the hope for the future should have it in mind that their actions and activities, of today, will help to shape their future.

You are right our view on enjoyment differs. You first comment maybe relative but you used a bible verse and now you used word "savior." It was such similar words that made say its religious. I do not mean you are wrong but you know people will not see your savior walking along your side so that is why it is still religious. However, it is fun and enjoyment for those that understand the mystery of a walk with the savior.

I agree that there are many views on what one considers enjoyment. But my response was not religous, it was relational. As one may enjoy a walk in the park with their spouse I enjoy a walk in the day with my Savior...

Coffeesnob, thanks for stopping by. I think you mean we should enjoy daily because the lord made it. Well that is a religious view and I know that some enjoyment are not religious. That is there are some things others see as enjoyment which some religious people consider bad. For instance much clubing as a youth among others. Therefore, the view of enjoyment varies.

Chamilj you are right, we have various stages of enjoyment but this situation is considering when we are youths, that is when we can take decisions of ours, and when we are old. It does not mean that life should not be enjoyed daily, if we have the means to do so. However, some things we do as youths can affect us at an older age. For instance if people fail to work hard and plan well in their early life then they may still have a hard work to do even at an older age.

I think every stage of life has its own way of enjoyment. For example in childhood we enjoy with toys, sweet foods.Old age people enjoy with their grand children. Whole life from birth to death is full of enjoyment.
