Year of the Dog: Happy New Year ASCII Text Art

Updated on August 15, 2014

Here are a selection of ASCII art dogs, puppies and mutts to inspire you for the Year of the Dog, in Chinese astrology.

Dogs aren't my favourite animals. They drool, they bark, they chase you and they bite you. But, this is about the dogs, and the Year of the Dog, in particular. Dogs are well loved, thought of as best friend's by many people. There are so many old sayings and phrases to do with dogs. How many can you think of in just a few minutes?

I can remember someone complaining about being lazy like a dog. Then there was the time my less than successful early cooking was referred to as a dog's dinner. Men who are in trouble at home are said to be left sleeping in the dog's house. (Now, of course, they have man caves instead). Those same guys might give a hangdog look when trying to get sympathy. Which could work - puppy dog eyes do have their own appeal too.

I have family members who fall into the Year of the Dog in the Chinese zodiac. Dogs are said to be very loyal and determined, some might even say stubborn when thinking of one sister in particular.

Following is ASCII art for the Year of the Dog and the dog people who might enjoy it.
