There are people who find the monkey a creepy animal. For no reason they have an aversion to monkeys, based on no past experience with being around monkeys even. I know because I'm one of them and I've done a bit of reading about it. Mostly for my own curiosity I wondered why I would feel this when I have never encountered a monkey. The only semi-logical explanation was an aversion or feeling of competition with a species similar to our own human species. I don't feel this is especially true. I don't see myself in competition with monkeys, but the part about not liking them for being in the same gene pool, does make some sense.

However you feel about monkeys, the animal, people born in the Year of the Monkey as one of the signs in the Chinese zodiac, are not animals.

People born in the Year of the Monkey are said to have a magnetic personality. They are witty, intelligent, fast learners and crafty opportunists. Monkey people like practical jokes and even though they don't intend harm, their jokes sometimes backfire on them and people do get their feelings hurt, or property/ belongings damaged. However, Monkey people are very sociable, like to talk and communicate well. So they tend to be forgiven, or at least manage to smooth things over.

The following are ASCII art monkeys for people born in the Year of the Monkey.
