This is a simple spell that can be done to celebrate the winter solstice
Yule log magic
The Yule log brings warmth and light into the home on the eve of the Winter Solstice. Burning the Yule log is one of the oldest magical rituals. If you are using you home-made Yule log [not the real one but the baked one] this is a simple spell you can do to celebrate Yule. Of course, if you are fortunate enough to have a real fire and the ability to bring a real log into your home for Yule, so much the better. Remember, magic is about belief and intention. So allow yourself to really get into the spirit of Yule while performing this spell to bring health, wealth and prosperity into your home.
Begin by drawing a circle around the room. Include the fireplace or wood-burning stove in your circle casting if you are using a real log, otherwise the table on which your log rests should be included within your circle. Once you have cast your circle, call the four elements as usual. Next, light a gold candle [a birthday candle is perfect for this] and dedicate it to the Mother Goddess and the Father God. If you are performing this ritual alone, you will only need one candle, but if you have others with you, a candle for each person is recommended. If you have specific deities based on the pantheon your follow, you may call upon them, or you may just call to the Lady and the Lord, representing the duality of forces of the universe. Once you have called your deities, tie or pin green, red and white ribbon on your log. As you do this, recite:
Blessed Log of plenty,
Bring us luck and make us healthy
And lots of divine prosperity, blessed be!
Then make a wish and repeat the verse above. Once that is done, place your hands over the Yule log and say this prayer with intention, picturing all that you desire for the coming year:
Dearest Lord and Lady
On this Eve of Yule I pray
Grant us gifts of plenty
Health, good luck and divine prosperity.
May your light shine brightly
Within this world of need and misery
In the Lady and the Lord's name I pray
Then close your circle and celebrate by eating your Yule log and drinking some mulled wine or cider. Happy Yule.
