Advent Calendar Ideas - DIY

Updated on January 19, 2017

Pick Your Favorite DIY Advent Calendar Ideas

It's amazing the number and the variety of Advent Calendar ideas available to DIY. Even if your kids are long grown and out of the house, you can carry on this wonderful tradition. Whether your forte is sewing or in handling a hot glue gun or maybe just crafting in general, this page features several of my favorite DIY advent calendar ideas I've found online.

Pictured to the right is a unique alternative to stashing small gifts in advent calendars. Instead of gifts, fill the pockets of a DIY Advent Calendar with customized tags touting a special activity to do each day on the countdown to Christmas. This DIY idea is shared here at the blog, all things simple.

Combine your favorite DIY Advent Calendar ideas and start a new tradition with your family this Christmas! (Or make a DIY advent calendar as a gift to present to loved ones and/or friends.)

Traditional Advent Calendar Gift Chain

These wonderfully wrapped gifts (covered in beautiful Japanese paper) are tied together with twine and then hung to make a tradtional advent calendar chain. The folks at Martha Stewart tell you to number and hang the 24 gifts of this DIY advent calendar vertically with number 24 being at the top. Snip a gift daily from the bottom of the chain.

You can find gift boxes in bulk online.

Book Advent Calendar Idea to DIY

This fabulous idea is shared on Apartment Therapy and it's one of my absolute favorites! Basically, you wrap 24 holiday books in wrapping paper. Each night let the kids open a "new" classic Christmas tale. You can read the story to them, or if they're old enough, they may enjoy taking turns reading aloud for the family.

Isn't this such a sweet idea? Here's the link for additional info. You could always substitute a favorite Christmas video also if you don't have enough holiday books.

Amazing DIY opportunities here. I think the falling stars design is my favorite, although I like them all. Those hoops are very visually appealing. Have always loved making things with embroidery hoops. Thanks for always finding and sharing such great projects for all of us do-it-yourselfers. Appreciated!
