Decorate Your Tree with Unique Ornaments from Africa

If you've traveled to Africa or have African ancestry, you'll love these Christmas ornaments. Many of them are suitable for display all year. Just hang your favorite one in a window where it will catch your eye and bring you enjoyment no matter what the season.

Maybe you put up a Kwanza tree in December. Whether it's for Christmas, Kwanza or another occasion, these ornaments make your tree unique.

They look great when you decorate a whole Christmas tree in an African theme. I've saved you some work by searching out a quite varied selection of these ornaments for you to preview.

If you are an international traveler, you might find some of these as you jaunt around. For the rest of us, the Internet saves us a lot of time and also avoids jet lag. Enjoy looking at the decorations shown here.

Hand carved from wood. This is a work of art. This is small enough to hang on the tree.

You can find slightly bigger ones, 4 inches, on Amazon too, if you want varied sizes.

Thanks to Jim and Janet

My friends Jim and Janet have really traveled the world. Jim's job takes him to Africa for months at a time. He's spent time in Ghana, Congo, Kenya, Mali, Nigeria and many others. Janet usually flies over to be there for part of his assignment.

They get a chance to learn about each country from actually living in a town, interacting with the locals and eating the foods. This is far beyond what someone would see in a packaged tour.

Since they are my neighbors, I enjoyed seeing how they decked their Christmas tree with mementos from these trips. I've shared some photos of those here.

Cheetah Christmas Ornaments - for the African Christmas tree

Be Creative in Finding African Ornaments for the Christmas Tree

Look for some by the country name.

If you'd like to make the fabric balls like these from Rwanda, I found a tutorial for a similar craft. You use cotton fabric torn into strips and wrap it around a styrofoam ball.

A nice textile ball would look great on a tree decorated with other natural elements.

Decorate the Tree with Flags of Different African Countries

You can get miniature flags online or look for flag designs on ornaments. You can find the flags on Wikipedia and print them out to place on your African themed tree.

I found some on the Zazzle site if you want to order some. Here's an example below.

Flag Ornaments for African Countries

This one represents the Kenyan flag, but all the other countries are represented with different shapes like hearts or stars featuring the colors of their flags.

I usually do a Sea theme tree, since I live near the ocean, but these African ornaments are gorgeous. Love the Agaseke Basket -- so pretty!

I love those glass animal ornaments! My little tree is too little to hold my ornaments. I just hang a few here and there and they are all a mixture of vintage and handmade ornaments mostly.
