4th of July American Flag Cake

Delicious American flag cake can be enjoyed for the 4th of July or any other festive occasion

4th of July themed desserts make America's birthday even more festive. This American flag cake is really very simple to make and is so moist and delicious. Not only is it easy to make but it's really fun to be creative and decorate. A refreshing choice for the summer months, this is a cake that everyone will love. It's a great way to be patriotic for the 4th of July Holiday but is a beautiful and delicious cake to be enjoyed anytime.

What You'll Need to Bake the 4th of July Flag Cake


1 (18.25 oz) pack lemon cake mix

2 (3.4 oz) packages instant lemon pudding mix

1 ¾ cups water

3 egg whites

¾ cup low-fat milk

1 lemon

½ tsp lemon extract

1 (8 oz) container cool-whip

1 container blueberries

1 container raspberries

10X15 inch cake pan sprayed with cooking spray

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. Mix cake mix and pudding mix together in a large bowl. Add water and egg whites and beat on low for 1 minute. Then beat on high for 4 minutes. Pour batter into pan.

3. Bake in oven for 25 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely before decorating.

4. Combine milk, lemon extract, and the squeezed juice from the entire lemon and 1 oz of the 2nd lemon pudding mix. Save the rest of the pudding for another time. Beat on low for 2 minutes and then fold in whipped cream. Make sure whipped cream is at room temperature or topping will be runny. Spread over the cake.

5. Place raspberries in an outline of a large star then fill in. Make lines of blueberries around the perimeter of the star. If you don't want to do this pattern be creative and have fun with this part.

6. Enjoy! Store leftovers in the refrigerator

      I actually don't have any, maybe should try yours... I can even use the same ingredients, our flag has the same colors. Everything containing blueberries and cranberries must be great!

      This looks easy enough but if I will do it is another story. I should give this to my nieces they love cooking up a new desert and this is a great one for the 4th thanks for sharing this recipe.

      Instead of using rasberries, my Mother used Strawberries and of course Blueberries, either way the Cake is Awesome!! ;D

      Fabulous patriotic cake recipe! Wow, I'll definitely try this! I admire your passion in baking and creativity. I enjoy cooking and baking too, and it even makes it more exciting for us, moms, to bake more often when we have kids and husband to appreciate the yummy cakes, tarts and all baked goods that we make from the heart. I always enjoy the big smile and excitement of my husband and children sitting on the table waiting for my cakes to come out of the oven, hahaha.       @Kailua-KonaGirl: You can make your own whipped cream which I've done before. It comes out a little runnier but with some finesse it works out and tastes great.

      This cake is so easy to make and sounds delicious. The only thing I will try to change is the cool whip. I never use this product. I know it taste good when used in cakes, but it is so full of chemicals and sugars. I hope whipping up a batch of whipped cream will work.
