Animal Plant Pots

Updated on January 31, 2014

Animal Planters are fun. They make unusual gifts and provide pleasure for all ages.

Everyone loves receiving plants and flowers, so why not combine this with a fun animal planter to raise a smile. Lots of people collect animal ornaments and a planter of their favourite animal would be an unusual addition to their collection. Then there is the question of what to put in the planter. All plants, garden or houseplants have their growing season, when they're at their best, so you need to choose carefully. I have also listed possible causes of problems once you have established your plant.

Choosing your Plant Pot

There is a bewildering range of plants available and you need to make sure that the plant will flourish in your pot, but most importantly that the potted plant display will appeal to you.

Answer the following questions to help you choose

Do you want a pot for a foliage or flowering potplant?

How much do I want to spend?

Do I want a popular plant pot or a rarity?

How much time do I have to look after the plant?

How big do I want the plant to grow?

Does the plant pot have room for the plant?

What's the Problem?

If your plant suddenly starts to wither - what's the problem?

Consider the following causes of plants failing to thrive

1. Not enough light

2. The plant is in a draught

3. Too much strong sunshine is hitting the plant

4. Overwatering

5. Soil is too dry

6. Soil is too wet

7. Nights are too cold

Some of the causes for plants failing to thrive are listed below. It is always good to have a manual on hand though to cover any serious problems.

1. YELLOW LEAVES - Use of hard watering for watering the plant

2. SPOTS ON LEAVES - Overwatering or splashing cold water on leaves

3. LEAVES CURL - Cold draughts or overwatering

4. LEAF FALL - Sudden change in temperature

5. WILTING - Dryness, overwatering or potbound

6. NO FLOWERS - Too little light

8. HOLES IN LEAVES - Insect damage

9. SLOW GROWTH - Underfeeding or too little light

10. LEAVES TURN YELLOW - Overwatering or cold draughts
