As a child, we put up the decorations about ten days before Christmas and they came down again on twelfth night. I thought that was about right - not too long to get sick of looking at them. Now my wife likes them to be up on the 8th December (a traditional Irish thing) and by twelfth night I am truly sick of them. It's such a relief to get back to normal after Christmas. Don't get me wrong, I do love Christmas but I think it's very depressing to see the decorations up in the shops before Halloween is even over. It takes the sense of occasion away.
My family have nicknamed me 'Scrooge' by the way!
